Just had an idea for a Fallout setting, and wondered if anyone else would think it's a good idea.

Before WW3, Repconn and NASA investigate Mars, and because this is Fallout, it has a breathable atmosphere and resources worth fighting over, along with various Martian creatures, and of course remnants of a lost-but-super-high-tech-civilisation.

Naturally Repconn exploits the hell out of the planet, setting up mining shafts and quarrys, and blasting anything natural nearby, while NASA, with funding from exo-environmentalists and pharmaceutical companies, keeps nature reserves to research the Martian fauna and flora.

Vault-tec gets in on the act sending exceptionally rich people to live there, and setting up space-ports and resorts, for people rich and adventurous enough to go to Mars, instead of being cooped up underground for the rest of their lives.

When the War occurs and Mars is cut off from Earth, chaos ensued, with the Repconn employees splitting into a number of smaller companies, many of which have, shall we say, expansionist policies.

So Mars becomes a wild and contested frontier with plenty of corporate intrigue, alien monstrosities, and people just trying to get by.
