Fallout: New Vegas - New Opening Cinematic

So I guess your main character is Wolverine? Or a robot? Or something that lets him survive being shot in the head and buried alive in the Nevada desert for a month? Anybody wanna tell me what the deal with that is?

People in games are quite capable of surviving gunshots to the head. Just ask Zaeed as well. But on a more plausible note, I recall hearing a real life account of some unfortunate soul who managed to survive having a railway spike shot through his brain. Who knows what state he was in, but I guess it just shows these things can happen.

Though the shorter explanation is "It's just a game".

...Riiiiiiight. "It's just a game", even though Bethesda and Fallout in general go the extra mile for realism, and use suspension of disbelief maybe three times per game. And sure, I'll accept getting shot in the head-- Heck, there was this one brazilian guy who shot himself in the head five times and lived to tell the tale--but being buried in the desert for a month is something that nobody nowhere is going to live through.

ALSO: I had no idea that Zaeed got pegged once. Whaddya know about that?

Fallout is a game prone to mutations in people. He could very well have a Wolverine like mutation. Or he could be part cyborg, we know people have been working on that.

Actually, I will totally buy that as an explanation; because now that I think about it, the Lone Wanderer Him/herself had a Wolverine-style healing factor, and there was that android on Rivet City. Good save.

I don't think there'll be drivable cars in New Vegas. I'd like to see it though.

Zaeed tells you that at on point, during his loyalty mission I think - a former gang member of his shoots him in the head and leaves him for, though of course he survives.

As for our courier friend from New Vegas, maybe he has also somehow picked up a mutation that has enables his body to extract nutrients and the like from the ground he was buried in. If we can have super mutants the size of houses and big creatures with what look like oversized ram horns, then perhaps anything could be possible.

So yeh, it's just a game. They may go for realism, but there's a difference between the ocassional concession to reality (radiation poisoning, armour bulk and such like) and things being so like the real world that it's unlikely anything remotely fun would ever happen in the game. Actually, you wouldn't even get to start the game, as the character wouldn't even survive his month buried in the desert. Short game, eh?

Actually, that would be pretty awesome. I AM...THE PLANT-MAN!

...Maybe this guy is an alternate history version of Harold or something. Either way, I think I can safely say that we're all intrigued by how we actually survive to the character creation screen; I can't remember the last time I said that about an RPG.

The courier isn't in there a month, that was just edited in and then they showed the teaser trailer. I don't think the courier was buried even a day. Heck, I don't think it was even a full hour from when he was shot until he received medical attention.

OT: I am very excited for this game. Looks amazing.

I ended up buying all the Fallout 3 songs I could from iTunes, and making a playlist. The only problem is if I am walking around with the songs playing, I eye lawnmowers, leaf blowers and motorcycles lustfully.

Here's hoping - there's a few of the the tunes I got off of Amazon in a Fallout 3 bundle of sorts, it does seem to have missed out a few of the tracks on it. I will probably need to hunt them down later. It would be good if there was also some instrumental music in the game as well. Once I finished the "Agatha's Song" quest in Fallout 3, listening to her lonely violin playing, it made for quite a moody accompaniment to looking out over the wasteland. I'm kind of surprised they didn't make a soundtrack. A lot of those songs would be cheap to license, since they are so old.

And Agatha's songs were also very nice. I do her quest early on so I can switch stations when I want something peaceful.

You know, looking at this trailer again... the characters look like dolls. They remind me of the characters from the Toy Story 3 movie to be honest. Maybe that's going to be fixed, but it looks really weird.

Yeah, I know. I've seen a lot of really shitty graphics in videos of this game. Hopefully everything has been polished by the time it's released.
