I got this out of curiosity for my iPad a few days ago. Not a bad little timewaster but I haven't felt the need to make any in-game purchases yet.

I mean, I do have the nagging feeling that I should give Bethesda something in return, but I just can't bring myself to make in-app purchases.

Way to easy if you just restart till you get a good selection from early/free lunchboxes. What you get makes a huge diff, but you get all of that in the first few hours or so (like 10 lunchboxes or something in the first day).

If you get nothign good (no good unique vaunt dwellers, no weapons etc), then your in for a long slow road building up your vault.

If you get even 2-3 unique vault dwellers and some weapons though, everything just zooms by and you end up finishing the game (have all the rooms etc) within a few days.

Believe I have my nuka cola plant by day 3 (might have been 4), and ended up deleting the app a day later as I had nothing left to aim for. Was fun, but very fast...and that was without spending any money to make it faster/easier. Didn't seem worth it to me to pay money for it.

It's a good example of a F2P game that isn't obnoxious with it's payment model. You win if you put the customers before anything else.

Meh, just meh.

People are talking about it as if it were something new and fresh in the mobile game space, while actually it is the same as many other games, just with a fallout skin. At it's core, this game is nothing more or less than farmville or The Simpsons Tapped Out, you open it up, click around the screen a couple of times and then close it, just to open it up again in a few hours, click around the screen again and close it again.

I'm having trouble calling these things 'games'.

While I'd not argue that it isn't similar to other mobile games, you do not have to play it like that. Things happen fast enough in the vault that you don't need to close it and wait for hours to do anything. Even if you don't rush rooms you only have to wait a few minutes between production events. I'd think your progress would be horribly slow if you played it the way you describe.
