So I hate false advertising. I don't know why I hate it with so much passion. Maybe it's because the companies don't care if they're making up complete lies and misinforming the populace, as long as they sell their product. Maybe it's because they think I'm stupid or gullible enough to believe whatever bullshit they tell me and go give them money because of it. Or maybe it's because the company is too stupid to have any idea what they're talking about, and end up saying whatever diarrhea pours out of their brains without bothering to check it, as long as it sounds like it will sell their product. Yes, I hate unintentional false advertising as much as the intentional kind.
The reason I'm thinking of this now is because I was reading through Game Informer last night, and I come across a Mazda ad about pirates. I decided this makes it interesting enough to read through. About halfway through the ad's text I come across this sentence: "Plus, it's far more fuel efficient than a gigantic pirate ship."
...
Really? You do realize that those "gigantic" pirate ships run on...air, right? That must be one hell of a car, if it beats running on air.
Now I realize that whatever idiot thought that up had no malicious intent (probably), that they're just an idiot and din't think about what they were saying. But Mazda is a huge company, you'd think they would have someone with atleast an acceptable level of intelligence reading these things over before they spend however many thousands of dollars sending them out to the world? Did anyone think about what they were saying there?
And I did consider the possibility that it was a joke, but I think it was too subtle for that. Most people probably just skimmed the sentence without thinking about it and accepted it as fact. Besides, making that shitty "joke" (which isn't even a joke, just an ironic statement) hardly pushes one to buy their car.
So that's enough ranting. Does anyone else hate false advertisements as much as I do?
