Honestly, when anyone does anything, it gets yelled at for one of two reasons: either it's fanservice or it's ignoring it's fanbase.

Well, I "loved and hated" a lot of things in the videos but I thought "not gonna send hate mail till I play it!"

Lt. Sera, you should try not quoting people out of context. Kind of ruins your argument. The context being the rest of my post that you cut out.
Wasn't so much a response to you, as more a response in general to people who do make such statements. Probably should have edited out your name from the quote or phrase the comment differently entirely. My bad.

People need to move on, and accept that things won't stay the same forever.
So no one is allowed to voice their opinion because of the inherent nature of change?

Wow, sure didn't use your logic on that statement.

Yeah I know that Bethesda are justified in saying what they're saying cause the hardcore Fallout crowd haven't played the game yet so they don't really know what they're talking about

but

Bethesda are about to release a game that's getting massive buzz. Would Fallout 3 be getting this level of buzz if it was just a new generic post apocalyptic action RPG? More importantly would Fallout 3 be generating this level of buzz if the very loyal very rabid fallout fan base hadn't have kept interest in the game alive over the last ten years?

To face facts Bethesda are about to make a lot of money because of these rabid lunatics, the least they can do is respect their opinions. Oh and if the Fallout fan base don't respect Bethesda (which they don't) then Bethesda should try and earn their respect. Releasing statements like this will not do so. It?ll only make the original fan base feel even more jilted and left out in the rain.

The opinions from the Fallout 3 doubters seem to always be critical of the fact that Bethesda didn't use any of Black Isle's Van Buren material. I've seen the Van Buren tech demo and i can totally understand why they didn't use it. It looks like the kind of game that belongs in the late 1990s, and it just wouldn't work in the modern games market. People can voice their opinions, but those opinions largely seem to be to make a game that is exactly the same as Fallout 1, which obviously isn't going to happen.

also, don't be an arse and quote out of context and then make stupid statements about me not using logic.

Fuck 'user advice'. Why should a professional game development company that's proved itself time and time again in the face of public doubt to be not only competent but innovative decide to start taking advice from raving 16 year old dipshits about what they should do with their game?

As for myself, I'm a huge fan of fallout 1-2 (ive played both 3-4 times each) and even though I'm pretty nervous about the direction fallout 3 seems to be taking, I've said that before about many Betheseda games and have been pleasantly proven wrong. I'm going to give this game a chance before I hate it

This rule of thumb was also demonstrated by the Diablo III response: "Fans" are idiots.

From the mind of a game maker, as soon as the fanbase goes up why not give them something asinine to see how devoted we really are.

Like that stupid train whistle sound that nail-gun made in Fallout 3?

Yeah, just like Star Wars Galaxies. They didn't listen to their fanbase and released the New Game Enhancement. That turned out well........oh wait, no it didn't. They royally fucked up the game by not listening to their fanbase.
TBF, they didn't just not listen.

AFAIR, they deleted their accounts and teleported their characters into outer space, after ignoring them.

What game are they making exactly? They have chosen and I guess paid for a well known IP. Whatever flack they get back from that is pretty much their fault because they chose it. They could have made something up, similar or completely different, they did not, they chose Fallout.

If they resulting game bares little relation to those preceding games, then why did they choose it? If they do not know what made those, games special then why did they choose it. It impossible to say at this time whether Fallout 3 will be faithfull or any good, but the simple fact is they have chosen a familiar and known IP. If they arent trying to appeal to the existing fans, then what the hell did they do it for? They have just wasted alot of money for no reason. I can understand them not wanting to listen to the fans, because fans are crazy people, have no clue about anything whatsoever, but would it not have been a good idea to at least get them on side a bit. I guess they didnt choose to make a game called Fallout 3 for the fans though, they chose it for an entirely different unknown reasons.
