I'm kinda depressed that there aren't any Xen screens yet. Still, if this is what the rest of the game will look like, then I don't think Xen will be a disappointment in the eye-candy department.
Well, Xen was and still is not the most fondly remembered level of Half-Life. So im not exactly doomsaying over that.
This is a good point to raise, and yeah, I don't think jumping puzzles are amazing either. In fact, I'd have to say that Surface Tension remains my favorite chapter of the game. Still, you can't deny that the place at least made your eyes widen when you started the Xen chapter. It's a fucking gorgeous environment if nothing else.

Xen is completely off limits to any sort of media release. They are keeping it a surprise until release.

The best you will get are these manta images

Oh well. I guess some things have to remain unspoiled to maintain an element of surprise. Good on them for adamantly sticking to their word, then.

Even so, it looks like the mod is almost finished, judging by the variety of finished environments from which to take screenshots. I don't think the mod will take much longer at this rate.
double snip
That is a fair point, but it doesn't really hold up in context. This is just a remake of Half-Life, not a completely new hyped-to-hell game like Duke Nukem Forever was. No new mechanics, and as far as we know, only a few new maps, and most likely no new weapons. This is pretty much just giving the original Half-Life the shiny coat of paint that Half-Life: Source should have delivered in the first place, along with the Source engine's enhanced physics.

Now if this was about Episode Three, and the same rules applied (meaning if we had screenshots and a trailer), then the Duke Nukem Forever argument would be a perfect rebuttal to my post.

Heh... I like how this is still a thing...

If it were a fan remake of literally another game from another studio, it'd immediately be shot down and all the members of the development team and their family sued and forced to work as slaves in the coal mines for the next 7 generations to pay off the debt...<.<

It's still anyone's guess whether HL3 or BMS will come out first.

Is it just me, or does the Source engine still look amazing, even in 2012
It's beginning to show it's age but yeah, it's still good.

I must get HL1 and 2. Everyone treats them like gold so they must be good

Working on a free project when you can leads to to very long dev time when you do something huge.

Dat manta...

I haven't seen any of their art up close, I thought it was just going to be the same aliens with a higher poly count. The artistic licenses their taking actually seem right up the alley of something like Half Life 2. Can't wait for this game!
