OK now I'm sure I'm not alone here but I am sick to death of fanboys bleating about why their favourite gaming system is the best. What drives them to do this? Is it because they are so deluded in thinking that their system is the best at everything? Because that's just total BS. Are they trying to prove to themselves that they got the best by belittling all the others? Now that's just petty. Every system has its pros and cons. Why can't they just accept that others prefer something different to them?

The knock on effect of these fanboys is that other gamers are accused of being fanboys just because they favour one system over the others. I've been attacked on this very site because I calmly and logically stated why I play more on the PS3 then others. In the same post I said that I respected all the other systems because they cater to a different audience. They all have different exclusives, they all have different hardware and control schemes. Hence different people will want different systems. Yet these fanboys are being ignorant and trying to prove that they are the best, sometimes going to ludicrous lengths.

Is this what gamers everywhere really need? We are trying to get non-gamers to take us seriously as a medium and art form, but are they really going to do that if they see a bunch of juvenile squabbles as prominent as they are? I doubt it.

Are fanboys really that big of an issue? I can't remember the last time I ran into a legitimate console fanboy, and even if I did, it's hard for me to imagine they'd bother me too much. They have a passionate love for their console of choice, that's no skin off my back.

Honestly, I think some people just want to fight. I don't even think they truly believe what they spout, they just want reactions.

It's a form of trolling, in my opinion. And you know what not to do to trolls...

I haven't seen it as much lately. I guess it was a big deal years ago, but I guess the problem fixed itself.

Ever since the PS3 joined the 300 dollar crowd, I don't think I've seen a single console flame war. Things have mellowed out quite a bit, and the wars seem to be more about games or developers than consoles.

I hate all forms of Fanboyism.

Just accept that you like some things very much, hate some things very much and that other people do exactly the same thing, so no-one is ever right.

OT: I've been called a fanboy (for obvious reasons) but honestly there is only one game that I'll frequently mention. I won't here (lest I get burned to the stake) but I just don't see the point in trying to "convert ignorant gamers" to my perspective.

Incidentally I find all console wars, PC wars pointless as at the end of the day the lines will not change and everyone has their own specific tastes. I may disagree with people but I'm not about to claim my opinion is superior.

I can't honestly say that I have encountered that much fanboyism in this generations series of consoles since the PS3 became cheaper. I might be good at avoiding fanboy/girlism, but when many of the games are multiplatform there doesn't seem that much to argue about beyond the exclusives for each console. I don't know. You like what you like, and I will like what I like.

I own all of the systems and I can say this with true honesty: The systems can kiss my ass, it's the games I care for. If Gears was on playstation rather than xbox, you'll have a shitload more people saying that playstation is better. It isn't, they just have a bias for the games that are on the system.

I haven't seen console fanboyism since, what? 2008? It's pretty much a non-issue.

You do realize that you can just ignore fanboys, right? Like, don't even respond to them. They'll go away if you do.

I HAVE CAPSLOCK ON SO I AM MORE RIGHT THAN YOU/ also sarcasm

I agree with you completely, I should have put more info on my last post so here I go now then.Just because you love a game does not make a fan-boy people.

A true fan-boy is a person who has an undying urge to sway everyone that is not a believer of their belief system they have towards a game or system. If they do not succeed, they will not sway from their statement. Also they find nothing wrong with there game, there is always room for improvement nothing is perfect. Everyone has an opinion but thats all it is, if you don't like it then you don't like it thats all there is too it.

As for console/PC wars yes they are pointless its always PlayStation 3 this and Xbox 360 that.
Is it that hard to buy them both and a PC like me you can still have a preferred console.

Also your right there are too many "ignorant gamers" not that I am giving any names.

Im writing this on a PS3 *cough cough*

Its pretty much died down now that its harder to find that big of a difference between 360 and PS3, and the Wiitards are not a fledgling if not dead race.

Because, over a certain period of time, they have received a quality service. For example someone who has a x-box is used to receiving FPS/TPS games that he enjoys playing online with friends, for him the price of the xbox is jutified, as well as the tax for xbox live. On the other spectrum we have Playstation players who are used to having the franchise they are interested on their system, they don't play online and if they do it's rarely, therefore the cost for xbox live isn't really justified. Whatever or not a console is superior depends on whatever or not the cost is justifiable, which depends on the lineup of games. After prolonged period of time a certain company loyalty develops, which isn't all that bad.

I personally don't encounter it... at all.

The only explanation I can offer is people desperately trying to reassure themselves they didn't make the wrong choice, console-wise or whatever.

OT: I don't think it will matter in the end. Look at sports. There is a ridiculous amount of sports fanboyism (they call it franchise loyalty or whatever) but it gets to the point where they will literally fight each other in the streets because they support different teams. Doesn't mean the average person doesn't enjoy sports or can't get into sports because the loyalists are ruining the whole experience for them.

It's like pretty much everything I figure, if they want to game on a 360, they will game on a 360 regardless of what PS3/Wii fanboys might scream and cry. If they want to drink coke over pepsi, they will do it regardless of how the pepsi loyalists try to convince them otherwise.

I'd be more worried about how gaming and internet "culture" are combining that might drive people away from the medium then the fanboys. When we've got people running around putting dicks and such in tags on Blops, people putting racial slurs in usernames and GTs and PSN IDs, and the general troll mindset running rampant in games; I don't think that Jimmy really really REALLY likes the PS3 matters all that much to the average person.

Fanboyism is dumb. Wow, what a newsflash. However, I do see it at times on these forums. A good example is mass effect. Ok, you like it alot. That doesn't make it good in my eyes. Another infuriatingly good example is 90% of the posts on the first 4 pages in this thread. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.259536-PC-Gaming-Master-Race

The only form of fanboyism that I still frequently encounter is of the PC variety. I find all sorts of people who simply love to rant about how the PC is infinitely superior to consoles in range of games, convenience, control scheme, and generally everything else. I happen to disagree because PC games have an ugly habit of breaking when I try to use them, but apparently not liking the PC makes me some kind of heretic.

I only see console fanboyism on youtube and at school. There's a really stuck up girl at my school, and if you say PS3 out loud she yells, "PS3 SUCKS!" EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
