"Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all others because you were born in it." - George Bernard Shaw

I'm sure many of you are already familiar with this quote through it's use in Modern Warfare 2 and probably other places. My point is that I believe it can be used to sum up a fanboy also, observe:

"Fanboyism is your conviction that this console/PC is superior to all others because you own it." - Jinjo

I mean really that's what being a fanboy is isn't it? You own that console so it MUST be better and you just have to let everyone who owns something different know that your way is right and theirs is wrong. Of course they mask that with reasons such as better games, graphics or whatever, but in the end if their mummy had bought a PS3 rather than 360 everything would be reversed.

Thoughts?

Patriotism is a different to "fanboyism" but still yes fan boys are idiots and eventually they'll get out of their mind set when they are 18+ well hopefully. I mean not every grows up.
I'm not saying they are exactly the same thing, but there are distinct similarities between the two, that is pretty undeniable.

It's a good theory, and to an extent it's kind of right, but the crucial thing is, ones a choice, one is not. You do not choose where you are born, hell you don't even get a choice whether or not you want to be born... sorry a little off topic. You do not choose where you where born, but you do choose what platform, if any, you game on.

PayJ567 is right when he said it's the mindset that is different. Patriotism is defending what you where given, taking what you have and making the most of it. Fanboyism (that word creeps me out) is the defense of a choice and opinions. Fanboys defend a choice, patriots defend what they have beyond their control (to an extent).

But... but... my PC is superior. He even told me so.

Patriotism is a lot like Fanboyism for sure, and being patriotic isn't always acting like a self-important douchepit on behalf of your country, just the same as being a Fanboy isn't always acting like a rabid four year old with internet access.

But what if you own 3 consoles & are only a fanboy of one of them? People like that do exist. I don;t know why, but they do. I guess they have money to kick around or connections to get expencive free shit.

Fanboyism = patriotism.

Fanboyism = religion. (The First Church of Mario, Our Lady of the Mac, etc).

Fanboyism = Love

A crude love but love indeed,when you love someone/thing you will defend it and only look to it so it's like a crude sometimes moronic but faithful and commited love.

"I love Gala so much, if she dies I will eat her."

-Salvador Dali
