Fallout, Skyrim, Modern Warfare, Battlefield, Mass Effect, GTA - all triple A games.
Pretty much everyone that lingers on these forums has at the very least played one of these games. You can probably measure the love for it by the hours and hours you spent playing them. There are massive websites with plenty of depth content about the stories, lore, items, collectibles, T-shirts, soundtracks and weird fictional plastic puppets about that one game, fansites!

But what type of fan are you? are you the one that buys all the collectibles? Someone that would go trough all the loopholes to get that one rare physical object for this game?
-- the collector --

Or are you someone that rather discusses on the lore of the game? Dive into the deep content and get lost in the digital world, someone that goes to great length to understand what drives the characters in the game, and loves to stream this knowledge to the casual player that hangs around on the specific game's forums.
-- the lorekeeper --

Or are you the type of gamer that wants to get together with other gamers and discuss tactics, achievements and other progressions, someone that attends every community event made for this game and hangs around with others to play it in massive LAN parties?
-- the attendant --

Then lastly, are you really someone that just games for fun? to spend his free time doing something that he likes, not going in that deep but just enjoying the content he has - skipping trough the cut scenes to get to the action, generally disengaging himself from further depth, all you need to know is dude A is bad so you use item B to pwn his butt and save princess C^^

-- the casual --

So tell me Escapist - What type of fan are you?

Hmm, your question sounds vaguely familiar... Collected knowledge of The Human Race machine go!

Here it is: http://www.gamerdna.com/quizzes/bartle-test-of-gamer-psychology?cobrand=

Though to answer your question, I don't fit any of your very narrow descriptions, so really I'll just go with casual.

Combination of Lorekeeper, Casual, and Attendant. World lore fascinates me.

I WOULD buy collector editions of my favorites games if I could afford it.

casual but I like story and lore too... I play for fun but I love story. Casual to me is playing for fun but still playing the game for the story too.

Feel free to describe your own category too, I was just stating a few over-the-top possibilities ;)

I love games that can provide me with a deeper and interesting lore, and I'll spend an hour or so checking that out. But sometimes I really can't be bothered in hearing what Lord Humptidump did in the SEcond month of the forlorn age on the Hill of Souls.

So a Semi-lorekeeper? Something like that.

I would say casual. When I really like agame, I get into the whole series. Soon as I played Mass Effect 1, I had 3's release marked on my calander.

But I'm not a big enough fan to go find the Expanded universe books and such.

The only game I've played out of those is Skyrim and I'm not that much of a fan of TES. I like it but not so much to say that I'm part of its "fandom". I'd say I'm "lorekeeper" for Dark Souls though. That game has some tasty lore. Mmmm.

I was almost a Lore Keeper but I don't preach about my favorite games so I'm going to agree with the majority of the responses here, 1/2 Lore Keeper 1/2 Casual.

Lorekeeper... definitely. Maybe a partial bit of Attendant, depending on the Game.

I love games with rich and vibrant lore. The Elder Scrolls is one such series, despite there consistent inability to make a good story out of it. From the books, to legends, to history... there are so many things that just make me fall in love with the series. And it isn't the only series I hold cherish in such a way. However I don't discuss Lore much... I love reading the Wikis and what's provided in game.

I like to discuss tactics, the nuances to a games mechanics and strategies in games like Dawn of War and Starcraft. This is purely for the benefit of playing, not due to any massive intrigue into how it functions.

I can come down to a casual type too, as I often indulge in various other games with no underlying lore or deep gameplay mechanics. In these cases I just enjoy what's at hand for what it is and how it does it.

Based on some of the stuff I've seen people post on here about all of those games you should add another category: "The Asshole"

Puts on hipster glasses. I ONLY play Baldur's Gate

Wait... GTA has lore?

I'd say depending on the game, I'd switch between Lorekeeper and casual. RPG or story driven games, I love understanding how the world fits together, or finding characters that span a series (Harold from the Fallout games; he made me laugh in Fallout 2, and finding him in 3 made me very happy).

But GTA? I often tried to sit through the cutscenes, piece together the story, but most of the time I skip and get filled in on the drive to the destination.

I'm too cheap to buy Skyrim, so no comments on Elder Scrolls (except the lore in Morrowind I found much more engrossing than Oblivion).

That said, I never buy novels based on games.

A little bit of all of the options except 'the collector', but it all depends on the game.

I'm a casual. I don't like the collectors editions and special editions. The only "edition" games I'll buy are the Game of the Year editions since I can't get any DLC (no internets at my house).

I'm definitely a lorekeeper for the Zelda and Sonic series but I'd never really go as far as a collector unless it was a cool item I could easily buy on amazon.

Everything else I just play casually.
