The only excuse to NOT have Dark Souls on the Wii U is the same one that was used time and time again to keep it off the PC, and it's "We want something that the other console doesn't have!! HURRDIHURR THIS CONSOLE MUST REMAIN SUPERIOR"
The reason Dark Souls wasnt ported to PC originally was because they admitted they didnt know how to port to PC. And then when they did..we got a fairly buggy port. From Software have only done 1 Wii game, so porting it may be difficult for them and simply not worth their time. With the PC version it was worth their time because its fairly common to have only a PC and no console, meaning you could legitimately not have been able to play the game. Considering the WiiU is a brand new console, the audience size that will ONLY have a WiiU and no PC or console is basically non existent(let alone the fact that you need one of those to play the original Dark Souls).

Basically it leaves you with an audience that CAN play it on another platform, but would like to play it on WiiU, which is just want, rather than legitimate lack of being able to play it, so it may not be worth the devs time. Dark Souls PC got 93k signatures, like 30k in the first day. 7k(now) is nothing compared to that.

If this works, we should all sign a petition to have Dark Souls III ported to the abacus and just see what they say.

Definitely a comendable petition, though one that I am not sure will be worth it for Namco in the end, unfortunately.

Seeing as how From Software didn't do well with the PC port (as they themselves admitted to not being very well at), I imagine From Software has dealt even less with the Wii, let alone the WiiU. If they did end up porting it, don't be surprised if they hand out a sloppy one with tacked-on WiiU screen thing compatability. The paltry amount of signs, while no doubt likely to increase given time, is a pretty good indicator that not many WiiU owners really care enough to have the game. Remember, the PC petition got several thousand in the first day, this is just a slow burn. Top that with Nintendo's restrictive online service, not to mention the many hoops they'd have to jump through as Nintendo is legendary for that kind of stuff, and, in all likelyhood, porting Dark Souls II will probably not be worth From Software's time.

That's not to say I don't support this, I do. It'd be great to have the game be exposed more, and as someone in the Facebook comments said, it really is heartwarming to see how much people want this game to succeed. Hell, maybe a port to the WiiU may actually make them create an "easy" mode of some kind, I'm actually all for that. It'd be nice to have a mode where you can get your bearings (hell, I have yet to beat either Demons' or Dark Souls), and maybe in when you first beat the game on either "easy" or "normal" it will jump to "New Game+" mode regardless of which difficulty you started on.

I dunno, just spitballing here. Regardless, whatever From Software/Namco Bandai decide to do I can understand either reason.

I don't know if there's an audience for it on this console.

Porting a game costs money, if you can't make that money back, it's a pointless endeavour.

I hope there is the market, but, people signing a petition isn't quite the same thing as people who're willing to buy the game.

I have no desire to sign it, as I have no desire to own a Wii U.

Those who are fans of the series, should consider the same, releasing a game to a format that doesn't have a market is only going to hurt the IP. And if you're not part of this market, you're potentially making a false expectation.

I can't think of a good reason why Wii U shouldn't get Dark Souls 2 if its is apparent it will sell well enough on that platform.

That petition is gonna need WAY more signatures first, but if it can get them I'm all for it.

Would kinda like to hear why a fan of the series would have a wii-U but not one of the platforms needed to play the last game. Just out of curiosity.

I'm not at all opposed to the idea of Dark Souls having an even wider-reaching audience. I was a signature on the petition and now own Dark Souls on Steam. Thing is, the PC crowd made a ton of sense for DaS. For all kinds you can find in the PC gaming community, there is a large group of people that enjoy punishingly difficult RPG's. It was a sensible market to get into (That would have probably had even more success if it weren't for the quality of the port. I'm hoping for a bit of love for my new GPU this time around, but I was overall very satisfied with getting the experience of DaS. Even if Games for Winderz live meant 5000000 failed summons).

What I'm dancing around though is, I'm not sure if the WiiU has the sort of audience to justify the port. There's probably a niche there, but Hardcore gaming never found its way dramatically to the Wii (to the point where Nintendo said they didn't care about North America's Wii audience for a bit) and even though the WiiU is intended to be bigger badder and more catered to the hardcore crowd, I don't know if you'd see the numbers.

If the fans ask for it, though, From has already shown that they are incredibly receptive to user feedback, as any good purveyor of a product should be.

If it works, huzzah for them. If it doesn't, well poo. I own all platforms anyway. After seeing the miiverse come together in zombiu surviving and puzzle solving, I'd love to see how dark souls could do. Those who own zombiu and have been to its miiverse understand me.

A goal of 100,000 signees is certainly enough more-or-less guaranteed sells to warrant the port. Or at least, warrant the consideration of porting it.

The petition for a PC release saw a total amount of signatures less than the goal of this one. So it could happen.

I would like to point out that the same would need a complete redesign in order to use the Wii U controls and the functionality of the system. The reason why we got a pc port is because is is much simpler to port a game from 360 to PC. Darksouls controls were adapted to the pc. Besides, for the pc version they were given only several months and that was given that they had the 360 version to work from, imagine how long it would take to do a mutlipaltform release including the wii U? The longer dev times translates into decreased content and no one wants to see that.

Well, seeing that there was absolutely no stuttering or drop of framerates in Blighttown on PC, I take it RAM, CPU and all those other numbers current gen consoles are so openly lacking in do matter, after all.

Seeing how feeble and light the system specs of the Wii U are, I doubt that would be a very smart idea.

See, I really don't want the corridor or on-rails feeling of other games coming to my D* Souls experience.

Everything you said made sense until that last part. Where would corridor or on the rails come into this? Im legitimately confused.

Also, im done judging the Wii U. I bought it, played the games, and im satisfied with it, no more or less. Besides, why would it matter of it stutters just like the rest of its copy's? It happens, it gets patched up to tolerable to good levels, and we kind of walk on. That's what im noticing with my Wii u at least. The load times were god awful and I had some bad fps drops here and there. Nintendo rolls out a system update, and another, shit keeps getting fine tuned, better, managable. Its just like how the last cycle started. Big shock. Really. Im going back to my PC master race for superiority, but ill take my Wii u with me. Its caught my eye in innovation and community.

An absolute waste of time. Dark Souls 2 will be a marginal game on this console, and which is why it will never happen. There is no market for this at Nintendo.

Dark Souls is the antithesis of the Nintendo Brand. It's not story driven, light on controls, or easy to play. Nintendo's idea of hardcore were the major franchises Call of Duty, Modern Warfare and Assassin's Creed.

This makes more sense than the PC version.
Releasing a PC version means you're making it more available to pirates, whereas releasing a WiiU version means you're making it available to Nintendo fans.
Nintendo fans tend to actually spend money compared to pirates.

oh it would be totally fucked up to see this make it, but I want it to happen. I want to see how commited Nintendo is to their plea to bring the hardcore back. It would be as much awesome as hilarious that's for sure. Also, I'd just like to point you to dark zombies. Or ZombiU. Its done a good job of showing the system wants to mean serious business. Im interested to see it try.

I envision moms walking into Walmart to buy their kids a game. They see a Knight with a Sword and think, "well, he's into that stuff." So she takes it home. Four hours later, there's a crash. Their television screen has been shattered by a red-faced twelve year old absorbed in gamer rage.

That post is absolute crap to be honest. Im not sure if troll or what.

I'ld probably buy it, I wonder if they could make the gamepad useful? I remember reading something about the developers not being a fan of the WII U so not sure, however people pushed for it being on the PC and that happened.

You troll me for having some perspective, and then pontificate the potential use of a cumbersome Wii-U game pad for a game that's already notorious for having a complicated menu system. Finally, you have the gull to remind us how these developers gave in and ported Dark Souls to the PC!

So a PC version of a Dark Souls port is perfectly acceptable?

May I remind everyone that it was the PC community that modded Dark Souls to make it worth playing. They shored up the graphics and controls from lazy or resource-scarce developers. I'm not as confident of a crisp Wii-U port.
