I think it's smart business...

If Sony does the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of Xbox One, I will buy their system, and I was an Xbox 360-only gamer last console generation.

They picked their words very carefully. You could have driven a truck through through the holes in the statement.

If Sony confirms that the PS4 doesn't have the stupid DRM BS in it, I'll be switching teams in this generation. Please, Sony, you have a chance to take M$ out. Take the shot.

"Playstation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all" was the quote from Michael Denny

They really couldn't buy that kind of publicity, could they?

They should be sending money to Micro$hit for doing all their work for them.
Sony has made lots of stupid decisions in the past. They surely have. I was there, I saw it, I have felt the pain.

Still, this is too good of an oportunity for them to miss. All they have to do is NOTHING. Nothing and then people will be jumping ship from the Xbox up, down and sideways.
M$hit were even stupid enough to not manage backwards compatibility, wich could persuade their consumers to stay, if only for their libraries...

Only an unreal amount of dumbness would make them waste this opportunity.
As it stands, next generation is Sony's game to lose.

I think the only ace in the hole for MiCRAPsoft is that they are going to sell the Xbone dirt cheap, on a contract, like a cell phone, and get sales from people that don't know better what they are getting into...

P.S.: I am spilling a lot of hate for Microsoft... I am kind of a Sony fanboy, but i try to do not let that cloud my judgement. I like Nintendos games a lot too. I just think that hating on Microsoft isn't fanboyism. It's just good sense.
I would like to point to the quote that Covarr has so kindly fetched for us:

Did we consider it? No, we didn't consider it. The main reason being that many countries don't have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust Internet.
Seriously could people stop saying "Sony will probably do it too!". No their not, they have publically stated they wont have an online requirement or any anti used game system on the PS4 nor support it. That's not to say EA wont do something themselves in their games, but it won't be supported by Sony. Which in contrast to the XBone where Microsoft not only supports it but encourages and wants it to be done.

Mainly because I think that's where they keep Kratos and Sackboy.
Wait, what is wrong with sackboy?

I mean, look at that cute face. You can't say that cute face deserves to be thrown into the pits of hell!
If you've played Playstation All Stars then you know that he is the devil. That souplex of his is devastating, that f*cking fan is evil, and that Level Two super! >.<
Basically I'm saying that Sackboy is hell incarnate trapped in a cute little knitted body.

At this point, it doesn't seem excessive to suggest that Sony could win the next console generation with this one single choice. I hope they make the right one- not for their sake, but for the sake of the industry. Consumers need to have options to be able to send a message.

My guess is that they are waiting for Microsoft to fully confirm their stance on the Online-Authentification and Used Game Sales issue. Once they do, they will most likely come out and say, "You know how Microsoft is basically bum-fucking you? Yea, well we are not going to do that!"

They will get a ton of good PR and an increase of sales, compared to Xbox One.
That gives me the feeling that Sony has 2 plans laid out. Stall with PR bull until MS finally tells us all the details of their DRM nightmare, then follow them if the think they can get away with it or go with a more lenient system and get more sales.

Don't mess this one up Sony. I'm already pretty much set on the PS4 after seeing what horrors Microsoft has unleashed. If you pull the same shit I might be forced to join the glorious PC gaming master race instead...

I guessing they actually did go ahead with the DRM idea, but after seeing the Xbone and hearing the fans, they're now scrambling to change it. The reason they can't confirm or deny their stance is because their machine isn't DRM free, yet. If they did go ahead with anti-consumer/retailer practices at a time like this, I foresee every PC companies' stock increasing, other than Microsoft's.

Its in their hands, but Sony's PR department must be jumping for joy right now. Microsoft reps have already saved them millions in hype and marketing. I'm pretty much set on getting a PS4, I've owned every "mainstream" console up to this point and always had a decent PC running at the same time. This next generation could well see me becoming a one system bloke.....and its not the Xbox One.

It seems the eyes of the gaming world are on Sony right now, can they rise to the top again?

This.

Three different 360 users in this house, and all three of us are ready to switch to Sony. But we want to hear details.

I thought Sony did confirm no persistent online connection? They mentioned they had many markets around the world that wouldn't be able to sustain a model like that and the technology was probably 10ish years off.

I doubt it. Apart from anything else, if they were also planning it, then MS going the same route is essentially a free win from both of them, if both consoles did it then they wouldn't lose many fans (how many PC guys are worried that they don't have the ability to play a modern used game at all?), there would be no alternative, except for the Wii U, PC does it and their closest rivals do it. All aboard the gravy train.

You probably can't read anything into this at all. When a company is that size no-one is allowed to release information without it being part of the plan. Sony have never given away random information like that to twitter questions before and they aren't going to start doing it now. PR decides when a question can be answered, in the positive or the negative (for example if they wait till MS makes a clear statement on their stance, then Sony can tell everyone then that they don't have any used game DRM at all and get a huge marketing coup much closer to the time of release. If they answer now then the impact is lessened)

Sony not utilizing DRM would be a shock. Don't forget they're the company that owns SecuROM and tried to copy protect CDs.

I am sure Sony is under great pressure from the major publishers to institute similar features to those that Microsoft has announced. If they do not then they risk not launching with major IP from those publishers on their system. Of course if they greatly outsell the Xbone then the major publishers will be forced to release for the PS4 whether or not they are happy with their DRM stance and used game stance or not.

I for one don't believe that they have any intent of letting the same control slip them by. The reason, apart from their own history, is that if they were willing to be more gamer friendly, they should be issuing press releases right now.

Any PR firm worth their salt has to know this is the best time to strike. Not the least of which is because of MS's own stupidity, but a lot of the info out there right now is half understood truths and supposition. Once Microsoft clarifies how all of this works, the chances of it becoming worse for them that it is right now (on this issue) is unlikely. And if Sony struck right now, the damage it could do in relative perception would easily carry through both launches.

But no, the fact that Sony is being mum right now indicates to me they have no intention of letting this DRM honey pot go by. I think the best one could hope for is that they are waiting on MS's full reveal, not to say that they are doing the opposite, but to say "look we are doing it ever ever so slightly less than MS, aren't we so much better" but ultimately still having every intention of bending us gamers over and thrusting wildly.

The ball is in your court Sony, don't fuck this up and you'll have so many gamers lining up to buy your console just as a big 'Fuck you' to Microsoft.

This was my thought exactly, and this approach (if it does in fact turn out to be the case) is flippin brilliant on Sony's part.

Xbox's approach is brand suicide and they know it. They are no longer going to be a console/game company, but just another bullshit amalgamation of something that used to be worth caring about.
