Let me dispel this sentiment that I have been hearing that this a kids movie and therefore it must be bad. This movie can be enjoyed by all ages, and by adult and teens more so. So in short, go see this film, its a great all ages film. Now, onto the details and nitpicks.

The Story,It's a Roald Dahl book, so you know it's going to be whimsical, fanciful, and fun (This is the guy who wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and Matilda) While not the most complex of story lines it is a fun ride and a joy to watch. And the subplots don't get in the way or leave you unsatisfied. The writing is pitch perfect and there are so many clever quips you almost have trouble keeping up with the clever lines, and on that note.
The voice acting, is amazing. The actors all did their part wonderfully and I never caught myself thinking of the actor (which often happens when the cast of an animated movie has blinding "star power", aka cash ins) but I thought of the characters. The delivery of the clever lines mentioned before would have fallen flat if they weren't in the hands of capable actors. One side note on the screenplay that may stick out to people while watching, all expletives are replaced with the word "Cuss". I think Dahl may have used this in his original book so his characters would talk like adults, but still be kid friendly (if this word didn't replace actual cursing this movie's rating would skyrocket). However, you get used to this pretty fast and soon enough your mind fills in the blanks anyways
And probably my favorite part of the whole movie, the visual style. This movie, is beautiful. The stop motion is smooth, the puppets and props are extraordinarily detailed, the whole style is pleasing to look at an cohesive. Although it may be a bit too orange for some people, which is by far the most prominent color in the movie. The sound design is also well executed, ambient sounds to the soundtrack (consists mainly of folk and older rock) all fit and are a treat to the ear.

So yeah, do yourself a favor, go see this movie.

Or they'll steal your cider
[small]it was so hard to not use "fantastic" during that[/small]

The review is okay, could be longer to really get into it.

The movie looks amazing however!

I've been planning to see this movie. Although I don't know if it's out in my local theater.

I tried to keep it short so it wouldn't sound too fangirlish. I didn't really find any major flaws that I could talk about to make it longer. But I'll keep that in mind for my next one

I dare say this movie is not intended for children at all.

We saw it at a theatre with a woman and a 7 year old boy, and you could tell the boy was bored out of his mind and the violence (and implied violence) were a real turn-off for the mom.

My wife and i, however, absolutely adored the movie. Typical Wes Anderson. It's got a certain magical charm to it.

Definitely not for everyone, though, but...yeah..

HOT BOX!

I would have to disagree to your claim that the stop motion is smooth.

Wes Anderson purposely made all the characters have unnatural movements and used fur on his puppets so the animators would always be disturbing the hair when moving them. This aids in the homemade feel of this movie.

Yeah I liked it but your right it deffinately isn't for everyone. The animation and humor is definitely not for kids and its not really geared towards adults imo. So its kind of for a very select audience of idk what lol.

That's all one guy!? This man is a genius!

OP: Never heard of it, but it sounds interesting.

Really? My 7 year old younger brothers adored the movie, and I'm inclined to say "what violence?"

I suppose some parents, upon seeing that a film is made with puppets, assume it must have a Winnie the Pooh type story Plot, with next to no peril for the Characters.

When I was a Wee lad, I absolutely Adored this book, and though much embellishment has been made to the Subplots and new ones where added entirely (Cuss, the book terminates halfway through the Film), I felt that it was all in the spirit of the Book and didn't detract in the Slightest from one of my fondest memories.

Now all they need to do is Make a movie of "The Twits"...
