Do we need this? Didn't Blood Dragon work precisely BECAUSE it was a fairly short one-off spoof? Wouldn't this be like taking a perfectly good joke that made everyone laugh and drawing it out, telling it over and over again, adding more lines and needlessly complicating it, in hopes that it'll make people laugh for longer, and in the end results in one bad joke?
Maybe we could use another one of these. If there was another Blood Dragon, but instead of Far Cry, it was based off Assassin's Creed, it would be the Assassin's Creed everyone's been waiting for.

See, that sounds like a good idea, like something cool. But we're not getting it. There is literally ZERO chance of it happening. Why? Because it pretty much took a cosmic alignment for a major developer to find the balls to make something as fresh as Blood Dragon. And those balls are spent now. It would take major balls to push through Blood Dragon as a new AAA "franchise" which would spoof various other major franchises. No, my friend, what will happen is that it will be decided that against all odds, people liked this neon crap with 80s action movie aesthetic, so by God we're giving them more of it until they choke on it!

Which is sad.

i kind of like what Ubisoft is doing recently with the ridiculous spinoffs. anyone want to see a splinter cell game in which you get to kill Hitler? and maybe they could make an actual splinter cell game instead of whatever the hell blacklist was
Screw that, I want a blaxploitation Assassin's Creed that takes place in 1970's Harlem, New York, where you play as an Assassin who's also a member of the Black Panthers, complete with 70's funk and soul soundtrack and the theme song to it being "Am I Black Enough For You?" by Billy Paul and the character being voiced by none other than Fred Williamson. You do the leap of faith into dumpsters and assassinate those evil crackas from the Templars for trying to hold your soul brothas down.

...or maybe I'm just extremely weird like that.

But to get back on topic, I look forward to Blood Dragon 3: Vietnam War 2, and hope it continues the traditions built in Blood Dragon.
i don't really know what to say to to that

I really don't get what people saw in Blood Dragon. The one single joke the entire concept is built around got old before the opening cut-scene was finished and somehow none of the gameplay mechanics felt nearly as satisfying as they did in Far Cry 3. It's a classic case of someone taking an idea that would have worked for a five-minute Youtube video and trying to spin it into a full project.

The appeal of Blood Dragon is a 10 point thesis that I discuss in my review on my blog.

Short version

1. The retro-80s techno soundtrack is really-really good. Like a Daft Punk doing an homage to the Terminator.

2. It's an antidote to stuff like Spec Ops: The Line and Far Cry 3 that says killing people in video games isn't fun. This is a game where it says, "yeah, it is and don't you dare feel guilty about it either. Pretending to be a hero is awesome."

3. Far Cry 3's Jason Brody was annoying as hell while Rex Power Colt is endearingly likable.

4. It's an enjoyable story of good vs. evil.

5. You can kill dragons with a chain gun.

6. Grey Delisle is awesome and her voice makes every game she's in better.

7. The homages are awesome if you remember the more obscure ones. It's a bit of a game.

8. It's like an R-rated G.I. Joe. Which is, by itself, awesome.

9. It expands on the fun bits of outpost taking from Far Cry 3.

10. It starts you with the ability to chain kill and shuriken people and let's you go nuts with it.
