Far Cry 3 Demands You Kill or be Eaten

The latest Far Cry 3 trailer shows off stunning landscape and a bewildering mix of fauna.

Welcome to the happy world of Far Cry 3's Rook Island [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119352-How-to-Survive-a-Far-Cry-3-Tropical-Island-Vacation], where every guest is made to feel at home, snugly enclosed in a tiger's belly. Or possibly you could relax and warm yourself by the glow of a raging inferno, as shown in the latest featurette episode.

You play as Jason Brody, befuddled tourist, lost and alone in a land that sanity forgot. There's ancient treasures, killer natives and a lost girlfriend out there somewhere, waiting for you to find them. Also out there are leopards, tigers, bears and crocodiles, all of them hungry for your flesh. Sometimes this can be a good thing, as they're as anxious to eat NPCs as they are to munch on you.

Though the sheer array of creatures seems bewildering - do all those creatures share the same habitat, I wonder - Far Cry 3 is clearly going all out for your tourist dollar. The game's due out for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in early December for the US, late November in Europe.

Wait a sec. Tigers, leopards, crocodiles and bears all on the same little group of islands? Where exactly is this set? Because I can't think of anywhere in the world that would have all four.

Regardless, I'm actually starting to get curious about this game. I'll definitely get it eventually. Might even buy at release price if I hear good things.

If Minecraft has taught me anything, it's that fire is a very overpowered weapon. However, if I can set a bear on fire and let it run around an enemy camp, killing/setting on fire everyone it sees, then I don't think I'll mind.

This game is starting to look very interesting. Hopefully it's better than Farcry 2

I think in Australia they have all those, plus more.

OT: This is looking better than the first trailer I saw on it, I'll keep an eye on it but for now it hasn't caught my interest.

From what I can tell it's an island where all sorts of ner-do-wells brought animals for trade and some escaped and are now roaming. Or something.

It's what I'm going with. They're trafficking in humans after all, so animals wouldn't be too out of the question.

I do so hope fire in this game has been improved on than FC2. It was novelty before, and usually never all that helpful. I want wind blowing the fire into and through enemy camps, I want it to grow and engulf anything in it's path, and most of all I want it to last longer than 30 seconds. That would make this game for me.

Everything else I've seen so far also looks good. I just hope it doesn't end up like Farcry 2 did, a game with so much potential and some good elements, nut ultimately held back by glaringly annoying issues.

Oh look, it's FarCry 2 on an island. And you're still shooting Brown people! How original!

Pass.

wow, they mean they have the same mediocre fire mechanics like far cry 2? what an improvement!

and thats great when the game encourages you to use in game drugs.
vision blurring drugs and dangerous and bloodlusty wildlife are the perfect mix.
THE PERFECT MIX I SAY!
First thing I did when he said that fire was dynamic was laugh and spit my drink out. Fucking hilarious, they said that last time and we got fire that expanded in a circle and stopped at the same point every time. I ended up using it to put leopard spots on the world.

My only hope is that this one actually works.

Far Cry 2 would have been great if it hasn't been so utterly broken. I would say what I thought of the end, but it deleted my save for daring to stop at sixty four percent.

I love it! A shooter with colour!
Assuming it is a Shooter. Far Cry 1 was a shooter. Far Cry 2 was edging in on Fallout type gameplay. I'd rather they keep the combat fluid than try to ramp up other aspects like quest hubs and exploration. Far Cry and Crysis - 2 games I can think of that are fairly recent where the gameplay went from great in the main title to average in the sequel.

Hopefully I'm just being cynical. The game does look great.
