Hey there I realise this game has been out for a while now but i've just started to play it.

Ok first thing i want to clarify before i begin is, for those of you who know of me.
this is the real etherlance and not my little shit of a brother dillan.
second thing is please don't send any messages about my use of syntax and puctuation etc, its not really here because i couldnt be bothered to put it in.

Right that said and done on to the topic:
I've just started playing Farcry 2 and was wondering if depending on your character you get differant buddies in the story.
Also i was wondering if the game randomizes which faction picks you up at the start or if it depends on something that you do your self.

Anyway, as far as I know your buddies do differ slighty but I'm not sure about the factions as I've only played it once. I can answer the buddies thing because my Dad pointed out I ahd different ones to him.

Which faction you get picked up by is decided by where in Pala you collapse or die during the opening shootout. You wake up at whichever starting location is nearest.

look guys before we continue on about how crap i am at doing this, i only posted this thread to get some insight into this game from other gamers not to argue about my thread writing skills (or lack there of).

So i'm going to drop the arguement in hopes that you too are big enough and mature enough to drop it as well and just give out any advice you may have about the game.
If not, at least i can say i tried.

Your first buddy is different, but you meet all the characters.

After you run out of the hotel and turn right, you see a road opposite you. Turn right and UFFL will pick you up. Turn left and APR will pick you up.

i dont know why people are making such a big deal out of you lack of posting skills (not that its hard though) personally i could care less

Anyway, back to what you were asking, from what I have heard it doesnt make a difference who you pick, you get the same story, same order of occurances, etc
The only difference is that one of your buddies will be switched with the corresponding person you picked to begin with, eg, if you picked the regular looking mid 20's white guy but then play with the older guy with grey hair (sorry been a while since I finished it can't remember the names), their roles will be switched second time around

The one nagging thought in teh back of my head at the moment is "Who does know the real etherlance?". He's done close to 50 posts spread sparsely over the a five month period (and yes I have looked in his profile). Quite frankly I don't see much of a difference in the postings, or maybe that's just the coffee not flowing through my veins.

On topic: the faction that picks you up depends on where you pass out during the hotel part at the beginning.
And you buddies change. My firsy playthrough I play with Hakeem, picked up Qarbani, then Flora, then Iosip, the Irish guy saved my ass after Act I and the guy in the boat was Marty.
My second playthrough, I played with Marty. I picked up Qarbani again, Flora again, then the Chinese guy, I was saved by the Irish guy again, but the guy in the boat was definitely not me.

And how many people were trying to help him? If you saw that he did that, it's probably better to send PMs apologizing, not in this thread, which has a 1/9001 chance that the people involved will look and forgive you.

This is a good point. You seem to assume we all care who you are, i like that its pretentious. Well not much more i can add here your question has been answered.

Here I write a reply, and read that what I wanted to say has already been said.

I feel bad for saying this but your reputation here is going down.
But to fix that simply stop talking about your brother then i'm pretty sure your reputation will return.

as for your question your avatar has no effect on the buddies you gain and the factions well i have no idea

At the start depending on which corner of the map you go to you'll get a different faction. North is UFLL and South is APR. As for buddys you'll probably get them all if you explore enough but the order you get them in is random.
