FarCry2, stepping aside from the 'CRY' nonsense or not ?

The game will be entirely open-ended and non-linear. Instead of using individual maps, the game will take place in a sprawling nondescript land in Africa, with terrain ranging from savanna to jungle, similar to those seen in Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, Just Cause and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. The gameplay area will be around 50 square km. Some members of the Ubisoft Montreal team spent 2 weeks in several locations in Africa filming and photographing native wildlife. The team will use the animal footage and environment photos to create an extremely realistic environment.

The player can choose one of 12 different mercenaries to play as; the other 11 mercenaries will be encountered in-game as "buddies". Various factions and vehicles will be featured; enemies will include human mercenaries, but sci-fi creatures such as the mutants from Far Cry will not be featured. Furthermore, the player's feral abilities introduced in Far Cry Instincts and its expansions will not be returning in Far Cry 2. A dynamic weather system has been added that varies the weather based on the players ability - if the player is doing exceptionally well the skies will be clear and sunny, but if problems arise the skies will darken and storm.

So just a copy and paste thread?

Here's the 25 minute video if anyone hasn't watched it, the fire is quite impressive.

This is an Alpha or Beta Build afaik, so keep any "omg that looks crap" comments your yourself.

There's also 25 minutes here, don't know if it's different footage or not.

Will this be PC exclusive? I hope not.
Sorry, it is.

If they want to compete with graphics the likes of Crysis, they have to.

Indeed, there might be a tiny possibility of a Dx9 port to consoles (If they're making a Dx9 version, can't be too long before it's dropped :'( )

I love the idea of being able to find any of the other 11 Merc's and teaming up with them, hope Ubisoft Montreal aren't biting off more than they can chew.

Another thing I'd like to know is how did this stay off the radar so long, the first alpha vid seemed so 'complete' for a game only 2 months away (at the time, it's been put back to march now)

man that is some awesome game engine, i wonder if it'll have multi player squad, vs game, i mean 4 buddies roaming 50 sqr kilometers , would be a kick ass game. of course i need a multi core pc, and some new vid card, to run it. so ill look in the bargain bins in 2 years to play it.
*****
edit i watched full movie, yeah single player no team work. man a multi player campaign where you are on same side is what ive wanted since doom.

The game looks amazing but I can't beleive they got rid of the feral abilities. Sure it wasn't realistic but it was fun! Having the glow-in-the-dark vision and the ability to just run up and claw someone in the face was probably the best feature of the old games. However the flame thrower seems to replace it as the God Mode weapon of choice.

I think it's a good idea that they ditched the sad sci fi 3rd acts that ruined Crysis and Farcry and their focusing on things like smart AI and dynamic envionments. I really liked the concept of the rustic jungle warrior that a few levels in Farcry gave you, as though you were in command of your envionment. Nothing compared to taking out a patrol with a machete or casing an island from a zodiac, then moving in for the kill or picking up a sniper rifle and heading for the highest point. It's moments like that which made Farcry shine for me, and I hope stuff like that will be in FC2 as well.

If rysis is any indication no one will be able to play the game for at least six months after the game comes out because by then even games that can run Crysis at maximum without dying would be brought to their knees by Far Cry 2.

I'm so glad they got rid of the whole Sci-Fi/mutant enemies. They got so annoying and made the game less fun. The fisrt levels were the best killing off all the little Peons.

Looks awesome, but like said above can't run this. But I finished far cry only about a year ago and it was awesome as well, playing good games some time later when you can run it properly is no biggy imo.

It surprises me that CryTek is so ambitious with this game concidering how bad the last one sold.
Crysis was a very ambitious game and the system requirements led to its downfall in the sales departement.
It seems odd that they would go for another one after doing the big mistake of setting rediculous hardware requirements scraing away a big part of PC gamers from even touching the game.

But looking at it FarCry 2s concept and it does seem promising. I just hope that when it gets released you don't need to spend over $1200 on a TRI-SLI system and still get a mediocre framerate on Very High detail.

Photographing wildlife, hey. Now at least I know what UbiSoft Montreal have been doing instead of fixing Rainbow Six Vegas.
