Farting in public

So, I was at a new year party last night, as many others. I was sitting next to a friend of mine at dinner, who I thought started to smell a little at some point.

Now, it was a a 30 square meter living room with 20 people there, and the guy I was next to sniggered to me that he had just been passing gas at random for about 10 minutes, which had then reached me (along with a couple of others).

I was also at the cinema with two other friends a couple of months ago where one of them also farted several times, even though it was pretty tightly packed.

What's your take on that? Ever done anything like it? When is it OK/not OK to fart in public?

It's a bodily function. It's not like you're farting in someone's face.

I still find it funny whenever someone breaks wind.

Its a natural bodily function. Try not to do it in an enclosed space but thats about all you can do.

Well, it's not pleasant to be around, and I don't understand why people would gloat about it, but in the end it's not something you can really avoid.

Go ahead. Try it. Can you prevent yourself from farting?

... If so, congratulations. But I don't think many people can.

At best, you might be able to have some influence over how loud your farts are, and thus how many people know you are the one farting...
But stopping it outright? Not likely.

It happens occasionally, but I try to muffle it as best I can.
I will say that if anyone here is eating sugar-free foods, check to see if it has sugar alcohols in it.
Those will make you gas up like the Hindenburg.

I do it in public if I know I can get away with it

Side note: Last night my mate threw a piece of chocolate in the air, tried to catch it in his mouth, failed, it hit him in the eye and he shouted "ahhh, that really hurt!" and as he said that sentence the sentence he immediately flopped to the floor whilst doing a massive long and loud fart. It sounds immature, sad and stupid and it was. It was also the funniest thing I've seen in a looong time. Yup

It happens. I try not to be too loud though.

And despite how old I am, it's still funny when someone does it in public. Especially when it's quiet beforehand.

I fart loud and proud, it freaks a lot of guys out...
