Fashion should be less important than functionality.

I have a set of pants that have crappy side pockets but a large and deep back pocket. Whenever I try to get my wallet and phone in and out of the side pockets they scratch my hands. Reaching around to the back pocket is a nuisance so why can't I just wear the pants backwards for an easy to reach large pocket.

I'm also seeing people in crowds wearing sandals and girls wearing designer open shoes that whine when heir toes get stepped on. The worst are high heels which damage a woman's legs yet she'll continue wearing them because they look good.
Functionality should not take a backseat to fashion!

I am passionate about the subject because I have been arguing with my family for weeks on wearing my pants backwards and am too cheap to buy another pair.

Well, while I despise pants with small pockets (I need somewhere to keep my shit) I really can't imagine it being comfortable to wear a pair of pants backwards.

Eh, fashion has a place over function sometimes. I usually buy things that are a bit of both. Kinda hard to mess up a button up and dress pants though.

Luckily, I have found a nice style of clothing that is both ccomfortable, functional, and it looks good on me.

But I would prefer to be comfortable and look okay, rather than be uncomfortable and look fantastic.

It's because a lot of people have the common sense of a demented squirrel and are wwwwaaayyyyyy too concerned wth what other people think of them. Thse sad little people are why the word pity exists.

I mean come on, how insecure about yourself do you have to be to be concerned about fashion?

The only exceptions to this are for important occasions like birthdays wedding funerals etc. Or if you are in the PR business where image is everything.

It helps if you think of fashion as art, or at least clothing design as art. Of course you're going to have people who prefer the functionality, that's where a lot of things like cargo pants come into it.

Art is a demonstration of excess. Just as the peacock's plumage serves no survival purpose really (I mean, look at that thing!) what it does show is that the bird is healthy and will bear strong offspring. Think of art in the same light.

You can, if it's 1992 and you're in Kriss Kross.

I concour.

Women are slaves to fashion. If the designers say that polka dotted tie dye shirts and rainbow parachute pants are popular, guarenteed you will see them do it. Even if it is something completely illogical to wear (like Ugg boots especially in so cal)
I blame society. And stupidity.
My sense of style is t shirts and comfy pants. i have a pair of heels that i rarely wear because i rarely go to church and they are for church. mostly i wear converse. even to work where i have to wear nice shirts and pants and look professional.....but then again thats just me.

I might see your point if it weren't for the fact that wearing pants backwards isn't going to be functional either.

Wearing your pants backward doesn't seem like it would be very comfortable, and how are you going to use the restroom with the zipper in the rear?

I usually choose function and comfort over fashion, though I also genuinely like the clothes I buy and wear. I generally wear out my clothes until they're tattered and I have no choice but to buy new, in fact. And fuck heels, they're uncomfortable and unnecessary for regular wear.

I like wearing shirts from companies such as Ralph Lauren and stuff which are quite fashionable, so I'm not sure if functionality always comes first. Maybe for some items such as womens high heeled shoes functionality should come first because they can be incredibly awkward to walk it, but for normal everyday stuff I try to at least wear something half fashionable. I've never been much about functionality in my clothes anyway so maybe its just me.

I don't think I ever wore anything fashionable in my life. Due to my wardrobe I suppose it's expected, but I also see that dressing accordingly either takes so much time or is completely unnecessary, and that's shit I really am not cut out for.

Unfortunately, what is also comfortable to me would overall be uncomfortable logically at certain times, but I'm extremely self-conscious, and really never show off any skin. It can be 95 degrees out and I'll wear pants to avoid showing my legs. Well, publicly, anyway. Today hit almost 90, but I was in the house, sporting boxers.

I would shrivel up if I lived down south.

Cargo shorts + thin soled shoes = functionality win

The shorts and shoes in my profile pic are the only ones I ever wear with exception to my school uniform.

/win.

I wear cargo shorts. Lots of pockets and they don't look half bad.

Jeans, simple shoes, t-shirts, sweaters and vests. If they look decent, cool, but price (I don't like spending too much money on clothes) and comfort are way more important. Screw fashion, especially female fashion often looks áwfull. Those Ugh boots, those massive sunglasses that make you look like a bug or alien, horrible things.

It's always T-shirt + jeans + belt + black trainers for me, sometimes I wear my boots with the high-heel if I'm not doing much walking on that day.
I choose comfort, warmth and a little discomfort so I can look good whilst still being more comfortable than uncomfortable.
