Everyone says if you want call yourself a horror fan you need to try Fatal Frame (well, they say something to that effect anyway). But the game doesn't hold much appeal to me. Its main selling point seems to be that you have to wait for ghost to get right up in you face to defeat them but that only sounds scary-scary not interesting-scary which is what I'm going for.

for ex.

boo scares- scary scary
pyschological horror- interesting scary

This is not exactly to call Fatal Frame boo scares it just gets the point across. Is Fatal Frame interesting scary?

In my opinion, yes. The attacking enemy ghosts aren't the only scares in the game, but they're more like jump-scares (that you can miss if you turn the wrong way or run past). Still worth a run-through, though.

Fatal Frame never used loud noises to scare you. In fact, most of the time, the music cuts out, so you can slowly realize the horrors that are about to come crushing down on you like a bomb. It builds the atmosphere so well, that that alone is scary. The game also plays tricks on your mind, that changes with every play-through. The only weak point is the combat, but seriously worth a look at.

I played the second one and found it quite scary indeed. The atmosphere is deep, draws you in, and builds constantly in intensity.

Definitely do. The concept of needing to go down to the level of the thing that's already scaring the crap out of you is absolutely brilliant, and it works well, both in gameplay and in just making you piss yourself in fear. It definitely messes with your mind, because it requires you to do something that you know you will regret. Just... do. Play it, and love it.
