Favorite bad movie

I have many shitty movies that I adore. I'd be hard-pressed to pick a true favorite, but one that comes to the immediate forefront is Megashark vs. Giant Octopus. For sheer levels of mind-bending absurdity, there's nothing greater than this:

I legitimately enjoyed Priest. I think it's because growing up, vampires were really the only movie monsters that actually scared me, and then popular culture when and made them fantasies for teens with stuff like Twilight, Vampire Diaries and True Blood (I think). Priest was the first movie I'd seen in a while to portray vampires in a manner that a normal teen-aged girl wouldn't want to wrap her legs around. I actually didn't realize it was considered a 'bad' movie until a few months after it came out. I kind of avoid reviews for movies I really want to see, so my enthusiasm doesn't get ruined. My friend rather rudely burst my bubble about it one day, but I still enjoy it.

But a 'so bad, it's good,' movie? I actually don't really know. Nothing jumps to the top of my mind. I liked Van Helsing. A lot of people tell me that it wasn't that great, either, but I don't really think it's in the realm of 'so bad, it's good.' I'll have to mull this one over a little bit more.

So recently, I watched the movie Birdemic. I though that no movie could be either the enjoyable awfulness of either the Twilight Saga or The Room, but it has. If you haven't seen it, you see it on Youtube. It so horrific, from the acting, editing, camera shots, the effects, and so much.... I absolutely love it for being so bad. Are their any bad movies that you just love for being horrific?

Haha Birdemic was the very first movie that jumped into my head when I saw the title of this!

Other than that I'd say the best bad movie ever is Lake Placid. Not sure which one of the series is the worst cos I still can't get over the fact that someone thought it was a good idea to make more of them. I highly recommend it for a good laugh.

I love a ton of movies that are critically 'bad'. A few that come to mind:

IT - My favorite of this list.
UHF
Cube
The Good Son
Sphere

- Almost every natural disaster movie. Armageddon, Twister, The Core, Volcano.
To me, these movies are kind of like what Marvel Comic films are to people today. The movie can be cheesy and over the top and sometimes just silly, but it's super entertaining and often re-watchable. Unlike Marvel movies though I don't think there's a natural disaster movie that's legitimately great among the masses.

The first Mortal Kombat movie. It is so awful but amusing to watch at the same time.

Alien Apocalypse, starring Bruce Campbell. It's an objectively awful movie with terrible dialogue, but it's got Bruce Campbell as Machete-Wielding Space Jesus.

Also, as a second choice, Primer, this movie won a bunch of awards, is really obscure, but one of the best nerdy, time traveler movies of all time. It is so good, but was made on a very cheap budget.

Rocky Horror is the only movie that's near the top of both my ' best bad/over the top movies' and 'favorite/best movies' list.

In addition to that, I'd have to add Pink Flamingo and Reanimator.

I don't think these count. Bad movies do not equal over-the-top or schlocky or odd movies, unless those movies didn't MEAN to be those things. The Room is clearly trying to be a legitimate drama, Troll 2 and the Happening are trying to be really scary movies, Road House wants to be some badass action film and all just come off as stupid and silly and incredibly inept.

I think all three of the movies you listed knew very exactly what they wanted to do: you list them as "favorite bad movies" because you had a lot of crazy fun with them, but those movies were all very consciously aiming for that kind of crazy fun and succeeded at achieving it. If a movie is aiming to do a certain thing, it does it, and you as an audience member enjoy watching it for the reasons you were meant to, then that's clearly the sign of a good movie.

I love bad horror films. My two favorites would have to be Braindead and Friday the 13th Part VII. Both are just so ridiculous and awful. Bad writing, bad acting, bad everything, but still hilarious. Braindead has some great lines though:
"Your mom ate my dog!"
"Not all of it."

Death Wish III

A terrible movie that's actually awful and still enjoyable. I thought it couldn't be done. The Birdemic's and Troll 2's have so little quality that they are painful. The Attack of the Clones and Batman and Robins of the world have enough quality that they are bad but not bad enough, Death Wish III straddles the line on the back of the always-badass-regardless-of-quality Charles Bronson.

0% on Rotten Tomatoes, which unlike Metacritic is usually right.

The Room has 35%....

Birdemic has 21%....

Let that sink in......
