Okay now I'm sure that the title is self-explanatory. Everyone has a Christmas special that they enjoy above the rest. Now let's hear why you like it. Tis the season for some threads Falalalala lalalala.

Let's start.

My favorite Christmas Special is A Charlie Brown Christmas.

The animation is ridiculous and the story is simple. Yet you know what makes it great? The story is simple. Look at other Christmas specials and you'll see adults do the voices for animated children. Charles Schultz used children to voice his characters with the director, Bill Mendez, being the voice of Snoopy himself. The story doesn't focus on several little sub-plots like someone looking for gift for someone, decorating problems, or any child dealing with Santa issues. The plot: Charlie Brown, the lovable loser, is tired of all the commercialism of Christmas and wants to know the true meaning of Christmas. He's roped in by Lucy to direct the Christmas play, but no one will listen to him; so he thinks a Christmas tree will set the "proper mood" so he and Linus go to get a tree. The tree lot is a great symbolic representation of commercialism during Christmas time: bright lights and big multicolored fake trees with the only real tree being a stubby twig with three branches and falling needles. Charlie Brown feels drawn to the tree and takes it back to the others, but they laugh at it saying it doesn't fit the "modern spirit." Charlie Brown of course is distraught and he asks, "Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?" Let's not forget the memorable line of Linus, who quotes Luke 2:8-14, which is the part remembered by most people. A simple, yet profound Biblical message that has childhood faith around it that brings about the childhood innocence in all of us. A Biblical references in animated Christmas specials was uncommon (even in the 60s when this aired), which set it apart from the others. With Charlie Brown turning 60 this year, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" still remains a Christmas classic even to this day. Merry Christmas. If you haven't seen this yet then treat yourself this Christmas season and check it out.

Anyway lets hear your choices.

I love the über cheese of the Andy Williams Christmas Special (parodied brilliantly in an Old Navy commercial in the late 1990s). One thing I never understood about "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" was the lyric:

There'll be parties for hosting, marshmallows for roasting, and caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmases long long ago

Wait a minute. Roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories? The hell? Who does that on Christmas?
