Chrono, Frog & Ayla. They're fast, powerful and Frog & Ayla get decent healing techs. Their joint one is awesome.

Used to stick with Crono Frog and Magus, because, well, each character is awesome enough.
Though I've found that Crono or magus, with Ayla and frog... is quite a resilient team.
Ayla and frog pretty much heal the entire team for a decent amount if needed, and both can hit for decent damage as well. So either Crono revive others in case, or Magus for all out magic offensive.

I only used Frog for the early parts, up until I could acquire Magus. The X-Slice (is that what its called) was a cool double-team, but his water-based attacks didn't do it for me. Here, I'll rank them for you:Macgyvercas said:

I typically use the entire party through the game, but my usual Lavos Team is Crono, Marle, and Lucca. Sometimes I replace Marle with Frog, and rarely with Robo.
That's my group as well. Solid offensive capability and that duo heal tech is perfect when things start going south.MightyRabbit said:
That's my main team as well, plus their triple tech attack '3D attack' is one of the strongest in the game. Seriously, when it came time to fight Lavos' final form, I was doing insane damage with that combo. Helps that Ayla has insane crit attacks if you keep here around lvl 60-70.StriderShinryu said:

Magus because he's the badguy, and what's more badass than the heroes and villains teaming up to take down the ultimate evil? Also, for Alfador :3

Magus because once you get the item that lowers MP cost his attack everything spells become really cheap to use and allow you access to all the elements
Frog because well...IT'S FROG!
Ayla because she becomes really strong when you level her up, she can steal some pretty useful items from enemies and her joint heal tech with Frog is REALLY strong
