Well what's yours?

Mine would be either: Benedictus (Karl Jenkins) or Requiem For A Soldier (Band of Brothers theme)

OOC:Karl Jenkins is the name of one of the guys in Starship Troopers: Chronicles

Define "classical music piece." You mean old symphonic music from Renaissance to the present century, or do you mean "piece of music that uses symphonic instrumentation?" The latter includes movie and game soundtracks.

For the former, I'd have to say either <url=http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=F99E8D3F8FE53C25&search_query=rite+of+spring>Rite of Spring or <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz0b4STz1lo>Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity. Including the latter, I'd say <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1JgIg38QBU>To Zanarkand or <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XbEWS5t7q4>The Twins Fight.

The Baroque period came in between the Renaissance the the Classical period, and the Romantic period came in between Classical and Contemporary.

So we're looking for composers ranging from the death of Bach up until around the death of Beethoven, plus about fifteen years.

Unless he's just being ignorant, and, ya know, he just means 'symphonic stuff that doesn't sound modern.'

Old junk: Always been a fan of Beethoven's 6th and 9th.

Newish junk: "Felix Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto", that piece is phenomenal!

Modern junk: The HOMM music!! Also "Emilie Autumn - Willow".

I was operating under the assumption that he was using the "anything symphonic" definition of classical. Partly because I assume that to be the case among most modern non-music historians, and partly because there's really nothing in between Baroque and Romantic that impresses me much. The same holds true with Neo-Classical art.

My absolute favourite symphonic pieces have to be either

That's where that's from! Every time I think "morning theme," I always think "William Tell," which sounds much different.

And every time I think Peer Gynt, I think this instead:

Funnily enough, whenever I think Peer Gynt I think that exact same song. The only reason I can remember that Peer Gynt is the morning theme is because I found a classical cd last night and listened to it, and its still fresh in my memory!

Still, glad to have helped solved the age old mystery of the morning theme's actual name :p

I'm not sure what exactly is meant with a classical piece. Mozart's Zauberflote [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR8GFUTMP_E] is probably my favourite entire opera. J.S. Bach's "Erbarme Dich" (from the Mattheus Passion) [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPAiH9XhTHc&] is my favourite piece of any classic musical composition. If we're talking just symphonies, then Mozart's Symphony 40 in G min KV 550 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZD9nt_wsY0].

You want to hear a secret?
They're both from Peer Gynt, which is a musical suite.
By Rossini, if I remember correctly.

It's between two, Carl Orff's O Fortuna and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata

So difficult to decide....
