I've been thinking for a while about trying to find a comic book series to get into. I used to read a lot of manga (I still keep up with Mushishi and Fullmetal Alchemist), but I was looking for more of a Western comic book series. I've read Watchmen, which I loved, and while I'm certainly open to the idea of shorter series, I was hoping to find a longer running series. I had been considering Hellboy as an option, but then I thought to myself "You know who I should ask? The good people of the Escapist, that's who!" So, Escapist, what are your favorite comic book series, and please take the time to explain what makes them great, after all, I'm hoping to be sold on one here!
PS. If you're really cool, you might also mention where a good place to start on the series would be for someone new to it. I'd thought about reading Batman in the past as well, but the series has been rebooted so many times that figuring out where to start is a genuinely daunting task. I imagine it's not the only series with this trait.
