What are your favorite endings? It can be from a book, game, or movie. To clarify, by ending I don't mean the climax or boss fight; I mean the resolution, where the story is tied up and the world returns to a relatively normal state. This is usually the last scene of a movie, the last chapter or two of a book, and the last cutscene or dialogue of a game. So Escapist, what are your favorites?

The two that stand out in my mind (partially because I have a bad memory; I saw both recently) are:
1) Inception - If you've seen it, you know what I mean. If not, go see it right now.
and
2) 500 Days of Summer - It's kinda cheesy, but I felt like it made a cute statement and was a clever way to end the film:
After ending an off and on relationship with a girl named Summer, the main character meets another girl and asks her out to get coffee. At the very end, she reveals that her name is Autumn.

Sorry I am not bitter about that, I think Duke Nukem 3D is actually my favourite.
Nothing is more epic and funny than that ending.

If you haven't seen it, you guys need to play that game.

My favorite ending so far has been Call of Duty 4's.

edit- oh crap didn't realize it wasn't limited to video games.

Any ending to the 24 seasons. It's a pain to see the season finish. But sometimes they are pretty epic.

I'd say one of the most awesome moments was the clip at the end of ME2 that showed thousands of Reapers coming for the Milky Way...

Just because i'm difficult, i'd say Silent Hill 2 because nothing it ever really tied up in a helpful little package, no matter what ending you get. It simply begs for further speculation and discussion.
aaaaaaand Requiem For a Dream, Because although everything comes together, it doesn't try and preach the light at the end of the tunnel effect.

Itd have to be the ending of the Mushi-Shi Series. One thing you should know is MUshi-shi tells its story in a disjointed way, with new characters and locations every episode. Theres only two recurring characters. That is Ginko, the main character, and the Doctor (he is in about 2 or 3). In the last episode, theres no sign of Ginko until the end, when you see him as a kid with a group of travellers passing through the village.

Kingdom Hearts 1 made me B'AWWWWW
It made me sad the first time I saw it, but when I played through again, all I could think was "where is all that sand going", then questioning squares grasp of dimensional logic.

Having played it recently, I have to say I liked the end of the first Max Payne. The last line in particular coupled with his expression and the way all the loose ends had been neatly tied up (with bullets) felt really satisfying. I don't think the sequel did that as well.

I've grown fond of the Borderlands ending (pre-dlc) because it is obvious and very simple and at the same time managed to fool a lot of people.

neon genesis.

i kid.

well... the watchmen stands out for me (graphic novel); it was very refreshing to see an atypical "the harsh but logical villian actually wins" ending.

I love the ending to Funny Games. I love how nonchalant they are on the boat. It is just amazing.
Well, my number one choice of <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.240632-2-50-Reviews-Funny-Games-2007>Funny Games was taken...

Hmm...I'll go with the ending to <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.231661-2-50-Reviews-Snow-Angels-2007>Snow Angels. It was just...so sad, yet so beautiful.
