Favorite Game Character?

On the female side of things, it's a tough call. I think it'll have to be a tie between these two:
We will of course disregard how the sequel took her personality and shot it in the head.
I'd have to say Viconia DeVir from the Baldur's Gate franchise is perhaps one of my favorites, at least that is coming to mind. She is perhaps one of the more interesting companions in the series and has a very fun personality that at times seems at odds with herself, she is outwardly strong and independent, but inwardly masks a huge vulnerability to the world and her ability to cope with it, something the PC can work towards helping her overcome.
My favourites would be:-
Male: Kain (only the Blood Omen versions though especially Blood Omen 1)
Female: Tifa (FFVII)
With Kain I just love his personality hes a complete bastard and utterly ruthless and I love it which is why I wasnt to keen on how he was portrayed in the Soul Reaver games (plus he looks rubbish in those games).
For Tifa I initially hated her as I thought she was just the big titted character with nothing else to add but the more I played the game the more I began to like her I just found her an extremely strong and compassionate character far more so than the rest of the cast imo (whom I all really like...except Cait Sith), plus pile driving Ruby and Emerald weapon just looks to awesome.
Overall out of these two I would go with Tifa because Kains character has been assassinated to much for my liking while Tifas mainly remains intact which is unlike a lot of the other FFVII characters have especially Clouds which seems to change in every game hes in (for the worst).

This game sounds really cool! If I had any advice as a fellow writer, it would be to remember that not every moment has to be serious. Many stories now a days make everything seem like the end of the world. It can really hurt a story and make actually important moments lose a lot of dramatic weight. A little bit of levity can turn a good scene into a great one.
My personal pick would be Sissel from Ghost Trick. If you like Phoenix Wright, give this game a try! Its practically a crash course in good character design.

As for me, mine would be Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher series, although, that might be a tad bit cheating, since Im a massive fan of the books aswell. However his portrayal in The witcher 2 was one of the highlights in the series.
For women, Phaere Despana from Baldur's Gate II. I'd have done anything for an option to see her plans through and still go after Irenicus. Perhaps even with her in tow... No matter how many years go by, Phaere is still my automatic answer to: "Who's your favourite female character of all time?"
For men... I'm not sure. I don't really have a preference, and I prefer not to play them. I think Geralt of The Witcher series is okay. *shrug*

Connor Kenway: I know a lot of people hated him, but I really liked the character and I understood why he was the way he was. He was angry at the British for treating him and his people like animals, he was traumatized due to his mother being burnt alive in front of him, and as we see a large chunk of his teenage to young adult years we see him mature from a boy with huge amounts of bravado that it borders and sometimes crosses over to arrogance, to a man whom is dedicated and humble. Also I liked the fact that he wasn't the generic ladies man, it was good to see a character that didn't get lucky every time he tried.
Jackie Estacado: Mob boss with the physical (spiritual?) incarnation of darkness living inside of him bending him to his will. Jackie is by no means a good character, but he cares deeply for those he trusts and the interactions with them make him feel human. At the same time, he is a merciless killer whom will use the darkness to his advantage knowing full well that by doing so he is giving it more and more power. He found out that the hard way when the Darkness immobilized him and forced him to watch his girlfriend die. And the biggest tragedy is that he knows that without the Darkness he can't exact his revenge. He's forced to use/be used by the creature that destroyed all he loved.
In the best rpgs ive ever played being mass effect series and the dragon age series, i have learned that sometimes the best part of the game is coming back to the camp and finding people joking,drinking, laughing, and fighting each other. I know that the best part about having companions on this sort of game is that you want to be able to enjoy and have fun and make them realistic. As a writer i have always loved writing out jokes and "bar" scenes, so i am hoping that will help when i finish the final story. So far it starts out kind of serious but as the game progress we have alot of funny moments. Like for instance once you fight one of the big monsters one of the characters [who isnt the brightest and has the courage of 10 lions] will try to run up and bite the monster, later once beaten and you head back to camp you see this character roasting that monster on a spick over a fire. Everyone else however is avoiding it because it looks nasty as hell.

As strange as this sounds, Boone from Fallout New Vegas.
Maybe it was the result of coming from Fallout 3 where the companions are glorified bots and finding FNV's deep, actual human beings of companions, but Boone really stuck to me. Here's this dude, in the Mojave Wasteland, much more badass than my character (seriously Boone, just let me have one kill before all enemies in sight have holes in their heads), following my character around first by a death wish and then by genuine friendship.
I could feel Boone's pain as he told my char. the story of how he had to kill his wife, the remorse and guilt he felt, and how little he had to live. And how good it felt to see this guy gain his redemption.
