So the title is self explanatory. What is your favorite game genre? Do you like MMOs or RPGs or what ever? Also, have you ever invented your own acronym to describe a game? I personally like RTS or a good FPS.

Whatever has a good story, I'll play and thoroughly enjoy. I've played through Mass Effect 1&2 about 4 times each because the story keeps drawing me back.

Very much this. I can play any game as long as the story is well written, and the game play is at least adequate. This is why I like the Half-Life series, Jak series, ICO series and GTA games. Superb stories.

I love me some RPGs. But I play just about everything except RTS. I've been getting some games like Civilization to hopefully draw me into the genre though. I just suck at micromanagement.

Hard to say.
I love JRPGs and Fighting games the most probably.
But really, the only Genre i hate is Sports Games.
Ill play almost anything if its fun.

RPGs and fighting games have been my primary genres for years, and for the past two years I've added visual novels to that list.

My favorite is FPS, then it's RPG (which is why I love me some Fallout 3). I also enjoy RTS's.

Same here. And generally the amount of soul and creativity that seems to have been put into it. I want a game to mean something when I play it.

But a good fallback for me is usually FPSs. They still have to be interesting and unique with a good story (or no story in the case of Serious Sam and Painkiller.)

Roleplaying games. Though I do have a soft spot for platformers... the original banjo and kazooie was pretty much the best time of my life.

So refreshing to find a like minded individual. Most people i know never venture outside their comfort gaming zones because it's just different from what their used to. I've been trying to get my friend to play Valkyrian Chronicles because he love the stories of similar FPSs, but he can't bring himself to play a non-FPS game... so sad....

Shooters, RPGs, RTSs, Space games.

See Mass Effect. We need more space-based RPG/Shooter hybrids.

Edit: If ME3 will include RTS-space battles, I will never play anything else again...

I don't have any favourite genre, I enjoy RPGs, turn based strategy games, occasionally real time strategy games, first person shooters, third person shooters, 2d platformers, occasionally 3d platformers, golf games, occasionally baseball games, generally not adventure games... probably if there's a game type and the game is done well I'll play it.

Tis a tragedy, but what do you expect, most people nowadays are the instant-satisfaction type of person.

And I'll have to check out Valkyrian Chronicles, yea?

I can't be bothered with RTS's these days, mostly stuck with first person shooters and the occasional RPG, if it's decent. My main bit is that most RPGs tend to be so focused on online gameplay they lose out on scripting and/or graphics.

I used to love shooters, but with them being so bland nowadays I stick with old adventure games like sphinx, malice, and jak.

FPS, RTS, and Collect and Explore(Metroid). But for some reason I hated Fallout 3.
Sometimes mixing good genres goes really badly. With an FPS I want constant things to shoot. That's why games like Unreal Tournament and KISS Psycho Circus The Nightmare Child are great - endless enemies. Left 4 Dead 2 also, you just get enemy after enemy after enemy. Nothing else to worry about. Key cards suck, puzzles suck, I just want to shoot. Same with Hack & Slash games and why I hate Devil May Cry, I like Hack & Slash, but I don't want to go collecting stuff too - that's for platformers.
