The best I've seen was the Prince and Farah in Sands of Time. It actually felt organic, and it wasn't some sort of trophy hunt like the Mass Effect romances turned into.

Any of the girls from Harvest Moon Back to Nature...they all had relatively interesting characters, and the casual sexism that the game included (needing to build a kitchen & bedroom before getting a wife, your wife bringing you sandwiches on the farm) was hilarious for 10-year old me. I don't generally enjoy romantic elements of anything, but there's something about that game that seemed to do it right.

edit: just remembered how annoying yet awesome the song from the opening sequence was, thought it was worthy of inclusion

I would have to go with Eliwood and Ninina from Frie Emblem Blazing Sword. Since the characters is one of the thing that make the game so great, the romance between the two was somewhat compelling well in my view.

Viconia from BG2. Actually, even Jaheira and Aerie's were quite good. Anomen, on the other hand was obviously offsetting the karmic debt acquired from the three good male-PC romances.

But yeah, if I have to pick a favorite, it's Viconia.

I agree with this. Of all the games I've played Sands of Time is one of the only ones I'd say did it right!
