What is your favorite type of warrior from history?

I've always liked Knights. Damn the armor is cool.

My favorite Single warrior, fighting on its own would be a German barbarian. You just have to love that large uneven sword and wild swings.
As a group?
The Romans.

Huh... don't really know. Depends if you distinguish between 'warrior' (fighting for personal glory/honour) and 'soldier' (fighting for the state).

If the former: I don't really know, once again.

If the latter: there're so many that I like aspects of, but none that stand out. However, best citizen soldier, no doubt Greek phalanx hoplite, for reasons political, practical and skill based.

Samurai, hands down. Their mentality on battle and life was damn interesting at the very least and the Katana has to be the damnedest most recognizable weapon on Earth at this point.

The Samurai has always been a personal favourite of mine. I even own The Way Of Bushido in hardback.

The Spartans were a bunch of crazy loons that appeal to me too.

Lots to choose from, and again, it depends if you mean singularly or in groups.

But I'm a fan of the following;
Long bowmen
Bill men
The Varangian Guard
Jágers
The Roman Legions (both pre and post Marian reforms)
Hopolites
and Cossaks.

Legionaries and 19th century rifle-men- I suppose what's interesting is how, by working as a team and with discipline, it was these warriors which conquered huge empires.

That said, i also like Saxon/Viking warriors.
