Amnesia: The Dark Descent. A soundtrack that really adds to the game experience, rather than just being a casual aside. And i suppose some of the retro pokemon themes staked out a place in my heart, but that was very early on in my gaming career so nostalgia probably coloured those songs a shade of sickening happy.

Intro from the original Mass Effect. It's just stirring. (starts at about 1:00)

Gears of war 2. Armoured prayer and Finale are fine examples of excellent composing. IMHO of course.

Hrmmm.

A very hard tie between either Bioshock or Silent Hill . . . umm and Super
Metroid . . . and . . . SOMI . . . ARGH

It's difficult to pick just one because some soundtracks are so central to one type of tone, and you really want to like a soundtrack with a touch of everything.

It's been said but for me, it's a toss up between Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed II. However, I also do really like the music from the older Rainbow Six games (Rogue Spear, in particular).

Some of my favorites are as follows.

Those, and I love the Metal Gear theme even though I don't really enjoy the games much.

Can I post a few? Others have so I will:

For nostalgia reasons, I'd link the Warp Room music too as it's awesome, but I don't want to clutter up too much space.
I love this song, Meguro Shoji is definitely a master when it comes to music and I look forward to any game that he has composed for.
Yes, I like the english version of Ring A Bell better than the Japanese one, blasphemy I know.

Original soundtracks? cos if we're just going for any soundtrack, licensed music or otherwise-

I have to go with a tie between SSX Tricky and SSX3. Seriously amazing soundtracks.

1) Mass Effect
2) Hitman: Blood Money
3) Heavy Rain

Though the best mood setting song I've experienced in a game was "Room of Angel" by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn in Silent Hill 4.

I LOVE YOU BRO
Haha, well it took me 8 bloody years to finally complete it but it was worth it!
Hah, I still haven't completed it, after playing it up to the 2nd disc about 3 times and it crashing, about 7 years later, I started playing it again and was so happy that the 2nd disc worked :D

Now i'm in Ultimecia's Castle and im bloody hating it.

All this and nobody remembers the excellent soundtrack to Unreal Tournament? Shame on you...

That, and all the music Jesper Kyd made for the Hitman series.

The Dead Space 2 score was amazing.
Which bit? The screeching violins or the other screeching violins? XD

For me it's obvious

There's only one piece of evidence i need...
