It's hard to top Robin as worst. I'm not sure about favourite, though. There are few that really stand out to me.

Worst: The entire Star Fox team apart from Fox. Slippy, Peppy, Falco and Krystal. They ALWAYS find a way to get themselves into trouble, and I gotta save their sorry asses. I have a little less hate for Falco, because once, on Fortuna in 64, he once actually took out the last guy from Star Wolf, proving he can do something right. Peppy did as well, so there's less hate for him as well.
Best: The party from Chrono Trigger. With one possilble (and optional) exception, not a useless character in the bunch.

Easily Dogmeat for best sidekick, but only in Fallout. K-9 was good in Fallout 2, but he simply wasn't as awesome. In Fallout 3 I just got annoyed by him getting caught on the environment and running off and getting killed so I left him at my house in Megaton. I also think Garrus is awesome. I liked the whole idealism/pragmatism sub-plot going on in Mass Effect, and how you could persuade him to go one of those two ways over the course of the game.
As for worst? I'd say Liara from Mass Effect. I hated her so much that I never talked to her willingly, never took her on any mission, and refused to do her mission in Mass Effect 2 because she can go straight to hell.

My least favorite would have to be Navi. Not because of her going "hey, listen!" that's annoying enough to actually be funny. No, what annoys me is that I'm a particularly gifted Zelda player; I rarely ever die in the 3D games. Yet she STILL seems to think it necessary to remind me to climb Death Mountain when I'm already ON THE DAMN DEATH MOUNTAIN TRAIL. I swear, that grates my nerves.
Anyway, my favorite is HL2's Alyx Vance. She's well-characterized, so you like her. She's useful in combat, but doesn't hog your kills. She needs you, but she's not helpless. She's well-written and well-cast, so she feels like a tangible character that you actually care about. She feels like a good friend that I would trust with my back in real life.

Ok, hmm. Favorites, Pikachu (Pokemon), Ando (Heroes), Iwazaru (Killer 7) is pretty cool so far haven't beat the game yet though, Sparx the dragon Fly (pre David Spade voice) (Spyro) and umm... Not sure, Cid is pretty cool and some animals have filled the sidekick role moderately well.
