A Scanner Darkly[/b] - If you haven't seen this go do this now! Amazing performances by Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder.

That is one awesome movie, I was so happy when it played at a theatre here and my wife and I decided to check it out.

Run Lola Run, a German Film, is about all I can think of.

Another amazing film I decided to go see in theatre because I was taking German in highschool.

Most all my other favorite obscure movies are Troma Films and I don't necessarily like them because they are good. Cannibal: The Musical, Sgt Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., Surf Nazis Must Die, The Toxic Avenger, Tromeo & Juliet... great films if you want to spend a night laughing. The "indians" in Cannibal: The Musical had me laughing for a good week every time I thought about it.

When it recently came to my attention that unsimulated sex in mainstream cinema was a thing, I figured I'd watch the entire list of movies to see if any of them were any good. Most of them were terrible but Shortbus was actually worth watching. There were parts that made me cringe a bit (being a heterosexual male), but the movie was actually quite charming. I think it would have been better without having to resort to actual sex acts but I may be in the minority on that one.

Bubba Ho-Tep was probably Bruce Campbells greatest movie ever. It should work and yet it does, surprisingly well.

I also quite liked Pi.

Moon: an indie sci-fi movie (apparently that's possible) that's well-paced, really gets into your head, and is probably the closest thing we'll get to Portal: The Movie.

Definitely one of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

I don't know if they're particularly obscure, but by what people have been posting even products from the Hollywood Factory qualify, so:

Trumbull's Silent Running (one of my favourite films) & Tarkovskiy's Stalker, which undoubtedly inspired the game of the same name.

EDIT: Oh yes, how could I forget Plague Dogs? Adapted & directed by Martin Rosen (as he did with Watership Down, Adams' other famous screen adaptation), Plague Dogs is a truly poignant tale which pulls no punches.

Strange Brew

Probably the best clean comedy I've ever seen. No one I've ever talked to has heard of it.

Gattaca. A sci-fi movie about a dystopian future where the social elite have been replaced by genetically engineered symbols of perfection, one ordinary man impersonates one in order to fulfill his dream of going to space. A hauntingly beautiful soundtrack combined with great performances propels it to being one of my absolute favorite movies. And unfortunately, nobody I know has ever heard of it.

Is "The Station Agent" considered obscure?

Great film, sat through that a few times without ever knowing exactly why. Nothing much ever happens, yet every moment is riveting.

Myself I'd choose 'The Sure Thing'. Starts like a cliché teen screwball comedy then turns into something else. John Cusack at his best.

I'm sorry, but since when is that an obscure movie? I remember ads for that all over the place not long ago.

On topic, mine would have to be Never Cry Wolf. It's an older live-action Disney movie. It's the story of a researcher sent out to Alaska to investigate the local wolf population. The wolves are being thought of as the culprits in a sudden drop in the local caribou population, and the wildlife organizations are wanting to take a chunk out of their population.

To research them, the guy immerses himself in their world. He parks his tent right next to the home of a mother wolf and her cubs. At one point a male wolf comes by and urinates on his radio--marking that as his territory. In retaliation, the guy goes and drinks a lot of tea, and then proceeds to urinate a perimeter around his camp. Surely enough, the wolf stopped by again, but after sniffing his perimeter the wolf backed down! It's got a lot of dry humor and sometimes it gets a bit slow, but it is very different from anything else I've ever seen, and I haven't seen anything like it since. And it's based on a true story.

The Boondock Saints and its sequel. Two of the best movies I've ever seen, and have yet to meet anyone who has seen it prior to me mentioning it (Those basement dwellers on IMDB excluded).
