Although you probably could have deduced what I wanted to know from the Thread's subject, what is you favorite Pokémon game, and why?

My favorite has got to be Crystal version for the GBC, mainly because having both Kanto and Johto to explore made the world feel really vast and complete. Also, I thought the detail in the sprite animations for each Pokémon (not present in Gold and Silver) was a nice touch.

yellow. it was possible to actually complete it, and you could catch all pokemon on one system, rather than trading all the time.

My favourites has to be the original Red/Blue/Yellow. I just prefer everything from that game, especially the starter Pokemon. I would always choose Charmander and a ridiculously overlevelled Charizard. It is also my favourite for the nostalgia rush that I always achieve when I put the cartridge in my yellow Gameboy colour and see the opening screens.

Gold/Silver/Crystal.

I love the region and the pokemon that the game has. Plus some of the towns were really cool and actually had their own characteristic about them.

Also, Cyndaquil is the shit.

Emerald has my favorite "campaign", but Black/White have my favorite mechanics, and Platinum has my favorite post-game.

So...Black/White, I guess.

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I feel that it had a really really good plot, I liked all of the starters, and they were the most innovative of all of the games. Double battles, contests, battle frontier, not too many retarded looking pokemon, and I think everyone has to agree here, FREAKING SWEET LEGENDARIES. Actually, you dont have to agree, that was just me being cocky...

Soul Silver was my favorite, because it's a remake of the Gold/Silver/Crystal generation, which was my favorite until Soul Silver/Heart Gold added some new stuff. Basically, it takes my favorite in the series and adds better graphics, and who can complain about that? :p

My favorite part is that the time system is used so effectively, it hasn't been used to the same potential in other games. It made it all feel so much more real.

Haven't finished Black yet, but it's looking to be a close runner up.

Gold, because it was back when I was a kid, and much easier to captivate with all the sparkly lights. I also liked the visual design for the Pokemon most in that generation. I recently started playing White, and I don't like it as much as the others,

Its a tie between Gold and Diamond (more like 2nd and 4th generations)

For starters they both brought the most to the table
They also had the best pokemon IMO

Yellow. Me and Pikachu = BROS4LYF.

Plus I could get all the starters without save scumming.

4 Starters and Nidoking the ultimate team.

Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness for the Gamecube
Mainly because it was different. The double battles were interesting, the plot made some ammount of sense, and the villians, shocking for a Pokemon game, were COMPETENT.

I hate that flying rat bastard too.

OT:

I like Emerald the most, I really like the starters. Oh, and Wailord, can't forget that bigass tank.

Well, it really depends, I can find things every generation did better than the rest.

Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal for sheer glee and nostalgic value, with G/S/C getting bonus points for having a much bigger world and, well, fixing the absolutely broken gameplay of Gen I.

Ruby/Sapphire for being the last games I've played unspoiled by the internet, which as I've learned with D/P, really undermines the experience. Emerald also has IMO the best post-game with the Battle Frontier, to this day still feeling like the better incarnation of the concept.

HeartGold and SoulSilver for reaching (again, IMO) 4th Gen gameplay perfection and recapturing the charm of the original while still managing to feel fresh.

Black and White felt unlike any other entry in the series, and would top my list if it wasn't for a really poor post-game section.

So, in conclusion, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum were the only ones not to leave a particularly strong impression on me, although that could be in part because of how spoilered I was going into them. Watched gameplay videos and everything. Never again.

Ultimately, if I had to choose, it would be a tie between SoulSilver and Black.

Oh, yeah, also this. It's surprising how many people seem to dislike those.

Red because NOSTALGIA.

Or ruby, because it still had decent Pokemon and had a good island.

Hrm...

The originals are nice and all, but they just haven't quite stood the test of time. I don't think I could enjoy it all that much any more, but that comes from having played through it more times than any other game in my library. I did like some of the designs they used for the sprites; they weren't always clear, but sprites like Rapidash, Nidoking and scyther were delightfully dynamic. And Dragonite actually looked a bit menacing then.
(Nidoran male's is as creepy as all Hell, though)
The greatest thing about it, and one of the reasons I will love it forever, though, is the glitches. No other game creates worlds and creatures with such a drastic, unpredictable experience as what Pokemon does.

My favorite generation was G/S/C; I love the aesthetics of the world, the sound, and I liked many of the pokemon that came from them designing off of the limited G/B/C color palette.
I mean, if Tyrannatar came out in gen 3 or above, it would have to have some sort of colorful, pointless markings a la Rayquaza's lipstick.
I also like how its just darker. After Gen 3, it felt like the pokemon games had internalized the pokemon anime, instead of having its own sort of flavor.

I mean, they go from the game's antagonists being gangsters who commit murder and find all sorts of ways to mutilate and torture pokemon for their own gain, to misguided hippies.

If you can't tell, I have a strong dislike for Gen 3.

Gen 4 was quite a redeemer for me after the GBA games; I thought it had started on a downward slope when these games picked up the pieces and made something great out of it.
With the designs... Well, there were a lot of stupid ones to be sure, but Drifloon, Garchomp and Lucario made me more welcoming of the new elements that frequented recent additions to the pokedex.
The world was big, the campaign pushed you to new heights in levels, and the world and its music was bright and managed to avoid the gaudy look of its predecessor.

I have yet to play Gen 5, but it looks great. I fell in love with CHandelure and its family already.

Black and White. Looks like after the 15 years since the launch of Red and Blue I can finally say that Black and White are the best in the series. I've played every main-series game from then to now.

-New, interesting setting.
-Visually creative characters, such as gym leaders.
-Competent villain, and (for a Pokemon game) the most despicable.
-Visually great Pokemon, they're all very creative. I can admit, I could do without Stunfisk, however. The names and origins of the new bunch are all pretty clever, Stunfisk included.
-For a Pokemon game, a rather deep story.
-Great soundtrack with throwbacks to each of the previous games.
-The game is, again for a Pokemon game, cosmetically interesting. Graphics have improved very much over the years.
-Game can be challenging at times.
-Sympathetic characters. While the Pokemon games aren't going to win an award for outstanding writing and storytelling, it seemed that the characters were at least somewhat relateable. Main characters, that is. Gym leaders and enemy trainers are just random fights as usual.

My only real complaint would be the lack of post-game things to do. It's pretty much just the Battle Subway. Here's hoping that Grey Version adds more things to do. Looking forward to that 6th generation sometime.
