In my last post I forgot about the quotes I've made up. Or possibly that I've simply forgotten about hearing before. Either way I'm claiming them.

"A picture is worth a thousand words, but not necessarily true ones."

"Even good guys need their own legion of doom."

"I'd rather be uncertain of everything than be certain of even a single falsehood."

For a quote I just plain like:

"You read the Bible, Brett? Well there's this passage I got memorized. Ezekiel 25:17? 'The path of the righteous ma is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish, and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill sheperds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers! And you will know my name is the Lord when I rain my vengeance upon thee!'" (Proceeds to murder Brett)

-Pulp Fiction (as if you didn't know that)

For something insightful:

"In my class, you will learn to think for yourselves again. You will learn to savor words and languages. No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. I see that look in Mr Pitts' eyes like 19th century literature has nothing to do with going to business school or medical school, right? Maybe. You may agree and think yes, we should study our Mr. Pritcher and learn our rhyme and meter and go quietly about the business of achieving other ambitions. Well, I have a secret for you. Huddle Up...Huddle UP! We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, law, business these are all noble pursuits necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, and love; these are what we stay alive for."

-Mr. Keating, Dead Poet's Society

"I'm not upset that you lied to me. I'm upset because I can no longer trust you."

-Nietzsche

"You know the difference between an average man and a great man, Cole? An average man will shy away from pain and flinch when he is beaten. A great man learns to accept the pain, to accept the beating. To love the beating. Because if he doesn't, he will fail."

-Kessler, Infamous

I'm positive I paraphrased that one, but I don't feel like playing through the entire game again just to get it right.

Stephen King:

"The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a tellar but for want of an understanding ear."

Dark Tower

You see? Size defeats us. For the fish, the lake in which he lives is the universe. What does the fish think when he is jerked up by the mouth through the silver limits of existence and into a new universe where the air drowns him and the light is blue madness? Where huge bipeds with no gills stuff it into a suffocating box and cover it with wet weeds to die? Or one might take the tip of the pencil and magnify it. One reaches the point where a stunning realization strikes home: The pencil tip is not solid; it is composed of atoms which whirl and revolve like a trillion demon planets. What seems solid to us is actually only a loose net held together by gravity. Viewed at their actual size, the distances between these atoms might become league, gulfs, aeons. The atoms themselves are composed of nuclei and revolving protons and electrons. One may step down further to subatomic particles. And then to what? Tachyons? Nothing? Of course not. Everything in the universe denies nothing; to suggest an ending is absurd.
