Pretty straightforward. What's your favorite strategy game?

I'd have to go with Civ 4.

Fire Emblem (all of them): I love the story, combat system and they way it handles character relations/death.

Age of Empires 1.

Close second being Celtic Kings: Rage of War

and then we get into strategy games nobody's ever heard of. Conquest: Frontier Wars, Achron, Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile...

Age of Empires 2 is my strategy game of choice although I do like the Advanced Wars series and I had fun with the public beta of R.U.S.E. but I never ended up getting it.

I can't choose, there are too many! Strategy is easily my favourite overall genre and there are so many sub-genres within it to choose from, each scratching a specific gaming itch.

Turn based tactical
Tactical squad command
Real-time tactical
Hex based with rpg elements
Hex based without rpg elements
4x strategy
Grand strategy
Real Time Strategy

And then are we counting games with overall strategy themes such as simulation and economic sims? Simcity, Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White and the like?

Gah, can't choose!

Exactly this. If I had to pick some out of the series, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn were my favourites.

I'd go with fire emblem as well, except my favorites are fire emblem 4, and 5 on the snes.

Probably the Supreme Commander: FA series, however starcraft 2 is growing on me.

SupCom has a butt ton of macro, and I like macro. However starcraft has some nice micro as well with cool macro possibilities as well.

Nice, those are also my favorite FE games.
Although all the other games from that series are almost just as awesome.

Rome: Total War.

I just love Total War, its just a shame that Rome is the only one available for my humble little MacBook Pro :p

rome total war is my favorite.

other notable games I've sunk hundreds of hours into include;
disgea, final fantasy tactics, warlords, front mission, shining force, age of empires 2, fire emblem, total annihilation.

all really top notch games, but rome TW is just . . . well, the best. a perfect game.

Fire Emblem.

Fire Emblem 7 on the GBA to be exact.
IMO its the best out of all the ones iv played.

Its got a good amount of customization, amazing story, awesome soundtrack, really good characters(Even the ones i didn't like were well written and developed), and its just a ton of fun.

Hector is the best character.
This is fact.

Jagged Alliance 2, closely followed by X-Com, Silent Storm (No Panzerkleins mod), and the Civ series.
