Favorite under rated N64 game.

Not sure how underrated MegaMan 64 (Legends) was, I don't remember it being all too common but has it's cult following, but I lived in a small town with no dedicated video game stores, and between the 2 rental stores they still had limited stock. I wish capcom would reboot that... Megaman/X is my favourite capcom universe. Maybe after he finishes Mighty No.9 Inafune will make Mighty No.9 'chronicles'

Yeah, Megaman 64 (Legends) is probably one of the least liked Megaman titles in the entire franchise (even more than Soccer or The Power Battle). Despite that, it's one of the few Megaman titles that I've played more than once and it's genuinely a great game in it's own right. So much that it got a sequel and plans for a third installment were under way.

It's a shame that Capcom have basically given their franchises the boot and are forever in game development limbo.

The podracing game that came out with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Better on the Dreamcast, I later found out, but still very fun on the N64!

Other than that I'm pretty sure everything I owned on that console was pretty well regarded.

Can't think of many to be honest, I own most of the most popular ones. Though Star Wars Battle for Naboo was pretty good, as was Jet Force Gemini. Though I haven't played either for a long time so I can't say for sure that they are still great or not.

If you had asked me this question seven years ago or so, I would have said Majora's Mask. It took the Zelda fanbase a long time to realize how great that game is. It gets endless praise now, but there was a time it was a black sheep of the series.

Mischief Makers really takes me back. Charming, colorful, sidescroller that my sisters and I were always picking away at, cause we couldn't beat the different Olympics challenges without constantly switching the controller around.

Personally I myself was a big fan of Mischief makers, and Space Station Silicon Valley. What are all of your guys personal favorites?

One of the first games I got for my '64. Still one of the best platformers I've ever played, let down by that FUCKING septic swamp.

Jet Force Gemini, Body Harvest, Snowboard Kids 1 (never played the sequel, don't think it got a UK release) The World is Not Enough and Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon are some of my favourite games from the N64 era and are probably the reason I still waste far too many hours of my life playing computer games to this day. But the fact that every other post is singing the praises of at least one of these titles makes me think maybe the games aren't as underrated as we all think?

Body harvest, ambitious and difficult but damn fine! Thought i was the only one who played and liked it.

Rocket robot on wheels, still such a rare, great game.

Jet Force gemini i thought was highly rated anyway. Last boss was impossible as a
kid though.

Hybrid heaven ...glad others have played, so it wasn't just a sweet dream after all!

That stuff is pretty much the 'automatic chill tune' for me. Maybe I'm remembering it as much better than it really was, but hey, it takes me back to a much less screwed up era of my life.

Turok 2. While those who have played it have generally liked it, it seems relatively obscure in the grand scheme of things - especially when compared to Goldeneye. However, it's still quite possibly my favorite game period. To give you an idea what this game was about:

Yep, that should about cover it. Fun game, if choppy as all fuck on the N64 and stupidly cryptic at times. Not nearly as fast-paced as Quake (which I've admittedly never played), but the weapons and dismemberment are nothing short of awesome.

Fun Fact: Turok 2's flamethrower was the first in gaming history to use polygonal fire. In layman's terms, the fire actually had shape instead of being a flat sprite.

It has 2 sequels actually, the misadventures of tron bonne, and megaman legends 2. I have both... MML 2 is really good and tron bonne is funny if you like the world, sending the serv-bots into people's houses and letting them loot everything is endlessly amusing. The promise of MML3 was half the reason I wanted a 3ds so badly. Nintendo needs to buy megaman off of Capcom

Loved this one for improving on the first one in every way. Lots of new tanks, gangs and powerups (though not well balanced- the Crimson Guard is awful and so are Les Miserables), and as Jon noticed they increased the general speed of all the tanks to make multiplayer more fun. I liked Tank Wars and Frenzy mode.

People harshed on 3DO for making lots of bad games before their demise, but there's two I know are worthwhile.

I own an N64 mainly just to replay Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness once a year. It is still far and away the best 3D Castlevania game. It looks, plays and feels like a classic Castlevania game. While all the other 3D games have failed to live up to one or another of those criteria. (All 3 in the case of Lords of Shadow.)

Just listen to how atmospheric the soundtrack is
Plus as you'll notice from the cover you get to play a werewolf. How cool is that?

I'll second The World is not Enough. When it came out, some called it 'the second best Bond game ever made'- and I think it still is. Forget Nightfire. I'm playing through Everything or Nothing so jury's still out on that, but TWINE had the most accessible multiplayer of the big three N64 shooters. And in my opinion, the best multiplayer map design of the lot.

From that video the level design at least looks like its placed in an actual location, one thing that bugs me about Perfect Dark (only played the faithfull Xbox Live Arcade version, also played Zero but that one is shit) is that most multiplayer levels are basicly arenas disguised as offices or labs instead of actually trying to be offices or labs (villa doesnt look like a villa at all), the singleplayer did the locations great though.

Also Everything or Nothing is a really good James Bond game, it has a lot of variety and even a co-op story mode.

Nice to know so many people already mentioned Mischief Makers; my favorite game as a kid. Marina is still one of my favorite characters to date (right up there next to Vyse and Aika). Man, what I wouldn't give to see Marina and Tron Bonne duke it out to the death...

I was going to say Jet Force Gemini, as it's one of my favorite titles of all time, but it seems I have been beaten to the punch on multiple accounts.

Some other great underrated titles would include BattleTanx, Vigilante 8, Bomberman Hero, Worms: Armageddon, Kirby 64 (I know it's published by Nintendo but it came out rather late in the system's life span and is generally ignored when talking about the system) and Harvest Moon 64.

Dude I know right, Rareware really was the shit And definitely Diddy Kong Racing...Everyone goes ON and ON about Mario Kart 64 but I always thought that Diddy Kong Racing was the superior game. Better graphics, physics, gameplay, multiplayer AND it had a real story mode.

Whoa, I literally forgot about how much I played BattleTanx Global Assault until this post. It was probably played more than Smash Bros and Mario Kart when I went up to my friend's place. Definitely was one of my favourite multiplayer games at the time.

From what hints have been dropped by the director and the little things in a link between worlds I can see majora's mask making a reappearance in the main series. They've had Vhaati in more than one, why not the mask? Hell they could build it up to be like their version of the One Ring!

When OoT was ported to the 3ds, fans signed a petition to have MM ported too. Nintendo's response was the same noncommittal "it doesn't affect our decision but we're glad people care" answer that they gave regarding some popular Wii games that never got localized for NA despite similar petitions. Thats why I'm not holding my breath for MM.

Its also another reason why I can't understand Nintendo's "logic". They can make easy money with these games, but they'd rather not bother. Yet, they released NES Remix, a lazy poor man's WarioWare IMO, for a quick buck. Why?!

Not sure I'd include Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie into the list as both met with fairly good sales numbers and critical praise.
