I was going to go to sleep, but before I could, I just remembered some more favorites...

-Duke Nukem 3D: The shrink ray, freezethrower, and... the DEVASTATOR! YES!
-Privateer 2: Mass Ion Cannons... I stuck four of these on my ship, with one Flux Laser for variety. Oh yes...
-Halo 3: Gravity Hammer... you know that grin the Doomguy gets on his face when you pick up a good gun? That's my expression when I get this thing into multiplayer... same with the shotgun on Snowbound, or whatever it's called.

-Blades of Chaos, God of War: I'd just spin around and around and around...
-Shotgun and Gravity Gun, Half-Life 2: I love shotguns. The way yellow fluid goes everywhere when you shoot a zombie at close range. And then the metallic sounds that follow every shot...chik-chik...pure poetry. Grav Gun needs no mention.
-Monkey Wrench and Tonics, Bioshock: I also love household objects turned physical weapons. They really appeal to me for some reason. But a testament to Bioshock's RPG elements was that if one was so inclined certain tonics could be used to make the wrench a weapon that rivalled the lightsaber.
-Lightsaber, Star Wars Whatever: Shwoing....shwoing...

The fully automatic shotgun on Max Payne 1 (I forget what it was called) was pretty cool in and of itself, but combined with the newly introduced bullet time (remember when that was fresh and new, before everyone and their dog could do it in games?) the sight of a room filling with 00 buckshot at an alarming rate, crippling the nefarious lackeys of military-backed druglords is still up there...

Also an honorable mention should go to the Redeemer in UT- the ultimate weapon if you had the reflexes and control necessary to target the damn thing with any accuracy.

I love grenades, shotguns, gnomes (via gravity gun), and setting things on fire with my mind.
Tee hee, it's fun to think about...
You got a point. To tell ya the truth it's not the weapon, it's how you use it.

Anyone ever try to go up to a enemy and punch them? Probally not, but any future weapon pwns.

By the way if i had to chose, the best weapon would be the plasma autorifle from time splliters.

That bird with the bomb on it from Serious Sam 2. God knows what it's called, all I know is that it saved my life on more then one occasions.

Hmm, it would either be Banjo using Kazooie as an egg-rifle, or the Gunblade from Final Fantasy VIII. One is serious, the other is just bloody hilarious.

Storm Tornado (Mega Man X) -Shoots out a long, horizontal wind tunnel of death
Z-Saber (Mega Man X4) - The weapon itself was cool, but what made it even cooler was the moves you got from beating bosses
Frost Splasher (Mega Man X5) - Dashing through the air and damaging enemies you hit makes for some good ol' fun times, especially if you have the Hyper Dash upgrade
Exploding Crossbow Bolts (Van Helsing) - This is a freakin' sweet weapon. Nice and powerful, and limited enough in ammo (which regenerated over time) so you can't just spam it.
Grapple Gun (Van Helsing) - This was not only cool for moving around, but you could also pull enemies toward you Scorpion style and set up some nice air combos
Shield Boomerang (Mega Man Zero) - deflects bullets, and has a nice, long arc when thrown. Good damage, too.

For multiplayer games, I'll take a bucket of proximity mines from Golden Eye.
Universally, I prefer the shotgun. If it's effective against zombies, that's good enough for me.

Oh, I've got a few.

Dead Rising: The excavator. It's not really the most effective one by far, but it's the most ridiculous to see in action, in the same vein as the lawnmower. It's basically a heavy, oversized drill, and how it works is the fun: Frank impales a zombie with it, and then you just guide him into a crowd and clear a path, with the impaled zombie spinning 'round and 'round. Blood and body parts fly off as you hit more and more zombies, until it's time to toss off the zombie and impale a new one. Messy fun.

Assassin's Creed: The hidden blade. Apart from just randomly sticking guards as I move about, I love using it in combat. It's difficult sometimes to get the counter timing right and there's no blocking any blows with it. But after sticking three or four guards out of seven in counter moves, the remaining ones all run away at once, utterly shit-scared. Then I chase them down.

Halo 3: The spartan laser. It's always satisfying getting a kill with one of its five shots, be it a fully loaded warthog, those bastard banshees, or just some guy who has no clue he's about to see red in a big, bad way. I'll also have to mention the plasma and spike grenades, just because I love goading anyone in a vehicle to charge me, and then I parry and stick them when they do. Most satisfying when it's a banshee.

Gears of War: The torque shot. Lining up a shot properly and pulling it off can be a pain in the ass, but hearing that "thuck!" sound followed by an explosion can be so satisfying.

Duke Nukem 3D: The pipe bombs and the devastator. The former is fun to toss about, especially when you have the drop on someone/something else, the latter is just utter overkill and sometimes will get Duke to comment or laugh when it makes a huge mess.

Metroid Prime: The plasma beam. Charge up a shot, and watch that space pirate instantly turn to ash!

River City Ransom: The gang members. It's more for hilarity than anything else, picking one up, battering the others with him, and then chucking him into them. If there was ever a game that should be remade, it's this one. Only I'd rather keep it looking roughly the same, and just expand the world as massively as possible. It is still ridiculously fun to this day.

Serious Sam: Both the Colt and the SBC Cannon. I love both, because the Colt is a weak weapon, but fires with infinite range and perfect accuracy, and its ammo is limitless. It's so effective when you're firing two at once, when you know how to keep on the move. The SBC Cannon? It's a big goddamn cannon like you'd find on pirate ships of old, but bigger, and fires a gigantic uranium-filled cannon ball that just plows a straight path when charged up, and finishes with an explosion when it comes to rest. It's like bowling in gun form!

Goldeneye: Proximity mines. Such elaborate traps, and sometimes, I ended up killing myself because I'd go overkill with them and chain explosions that ultimately traced back to myself.

And if anything, Ratchet & Clank could have its own thread for just this topic.

Greatest Video Game Weapon Evar:

Doom II - Double Barreled Shotgun: That weapon was unstoppable, and worked well in all situations.

Honorable mentions:

Half life 2 - Gravity Gun: Pioneered the use of FPS physics as a weapon.

Bioshock - Incinerate!: Oh the possibilities......

The wooden spoon from Chrono Cross (aka, that game that uh.. well it had a good soundtrack).

Dealing the final blow to a world-devouring meta-dimensional beast with a spoon is an ultimate victory.

I always like the dual assault rifle/grenade launcher guns. The first coming to mind was the superdragon from Perfect Dark. I just liked the idea of having a crowd-controlling grenade launcher with a precision assault rifle for when the enemy's too far or too close for explosions.
