Favorite Zelda Game?

I played the NES Zelda titles as a child, and the difficulty in staying alive, combined w/ "puzzles" that were so obscure and pointless that they couldn't be solved without a guide (in the days before the internet, mind you) really scared me off of the series. I didn't pick up another Zelda till Wind Waker, which is a top 5 game of all time for me. I went back and played Ocarina w/ an emulator, and was shocked to find how similar it was to Wind Waker. I never bothered to finish Ocarina. Next, I bought Twilight Princess for Gamecube and found Hyrule so empty and boring that I never bothered to finish. I got all the way to the sky temple too, but I just can't care. Twilight Princess was uninspired at best, especially when you consider all the extensive delays.

At this point, the series needs a drastic overhaul of some sort.

Ocarina of Time (gets big fat nostalgia stiffy)
I was 6 or seven years when I got it (I'm fifteen (born in '92) now meaning that I got it in '98) and I played it with my farther... Well my farther played the most, I was usually just scared to death (^_^) and I think the first time I beat a boss was in 2000. lol.

second is Minish Cap and Majoras Mask because they are alot alike.
MM because of the innovative idea of timed scripted sequenses
MC because of the very nice temples

I've always (well, since I played it...) liked Majora's mask most; I don't mind the semi-repetitive storylines in most of them, but Majora's mask was a good deviation: no princess or Ganondorf, and lots of extreme weirdness going on (an enormous number of magical masks, some of which turn you into some other species; the final boss is an evil mask mind-controlling some odd humanoid thing into causing the Moon to grow an evil face and fall towards the Earth; the usual fairy is not just annoying but also arrogant and sarcastic; you get the idea). Plus it's the only one that has almost unrestricted time travel: you can jump forward several hours, slow down time, or jump back to the start and undo all the stuff you did.

Link's Awakening is also interesting, as it starts out seeming pretty normal but gets really friggin' surreal near the end. Though it's also the origin of the infamous big-blobby-snake-you-can-only-hit-on-the-tail boss.

I thought twilight princess was fun, but in retrospect it was mediocre.

My favorite is The Wind Waker.
It's quirky animation, it's new (at the time) attacks, the music...

Really my honest to god favorite.
That may change if I ever beat Majora's mask though...

Phantom Hourglass - took a bit of time to get used to having my hand slightly obscuring the screen, but everything after that was hunky dory.

Ocarina of Time. Did not like the "sequel" Majoras mask so much and was disappointed to see that they abandoned that story line after that game; i hoped for a 3rd one but instead got windwaker.

Ugh, can we please get a banhammer for anyone who uses "fag" as a suffix? If not because it's hurtful, then because it's stupid and lazy?

I'm a big fan of Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess. They are very similar, especially the OoT and TP, but no more so than a lot of games, or movies for that matter. I really didn't enjoy Phantom Hourglass - it wasn't bad, just not very fun.

I didn't ever do that well at Ocarina or Majora's mask, personally I really love Windwaker for being different and for having such pretty cell-shading. I also really enjoyed Twilight Princess for presenting a good, clean, fun adventure experience.

My first Zelda game was Ocarina of Time; I attempted to buy Perfect Dark instead but failed due to my age at the time ^^

OoT took around 7 years of my life to complete, on-and-off mind you, for around 300 hours. It took me 7 years to develop the necessary intelligence and wisdom bonus necessary to beat the Water Temple and find out where the bloody Spirit and Shadow Temples were! Playing it again years later had me thinking the game is very easy if you know how a fairy and a bottle work! Otherwise the setting was epic if a little dark and empty while the memories still live warmly on :)

Majora's Mask was simply excellent. One odd thing was the main story was always transient, with a plethora of sidequests proving much more fun and indeed driving the game forward to find more. Graphics were superb and the time feature pushed the game to the top of it's own class. Once again, certain power-ups made the game incredibly easy and offering credence to Yahtzee calling the lot of us "consoletards"!

A Link to the Past was truly superb and probably wins my award for best Zelda game. I played the GBA port so it was a lot more comfortable than lugging the old brick around... A massive world for an old game and genuinely difficult dungeons made it an incredible jewel brought back for another polish on my favourite handheld of all time.

... Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were alright; cel-shaded yet challenging and fun for the former made a nice combination for another comfortable console. Twilight Princess was quite an epic but tiring - I was in a puerile race to beat it with one of my friends and ended up breaking myself by the end. 2 years on and I still haven't picked it up again.

Too tired of LoZ regurgitations :'(

I find it odd that the topic is:

All righty, now that THAT'S out of the way, I guess you'd want to tell me the first Zelda game you played, because obviously that's going to be the your favorite since it was your first taste of the neverending series.
It seems a tad bias and one-sided at the get-go. I have a feeling that Zeld has not played many games in the series.

The first game I played from the Zelda series was the first Zelda that ever came out. It was Nintendo Hard and I never got into it. I could never beat it, it was too hard. That old bitchy person who gave me items was a thorn in my side. Every blue moon I'll re-play the game, but I always end up with the same result: frustration.

Fast forward to when the Wii first came out and in the first three games I got for it, I played Zelda Twilight. I liked Link as a wolf. It was dark. It was an okay game and pretty spiff for the Wii.

Then I visited the Virtual Console and played Ocarina of Time because a few friends insisted I did so. What was I missing all this time? This game is fantastic. It has the perfect feel to it, the ocarina-playing (which reminded me of Loom) was a genius game strategy, and there were so many quirky mini games in it. The entire experience was worthwhile and I have to say that that will be my all time favorite Zelda game.

I shall be playing Wind Waker next.

Ocarina will always hold a special place in my heart, but wind waker may clinch it, it was just so refreshing to have something different done with the series (only the graphical style; the plot, the characters, and the music were no different). I agree with the thread's opening about how every zelda game is essentially the same. Nintendo, god bless them, do have this problem, it would be really good to see some of the huge budget spent on each new zelda and each new mario diverted into something new and fresh. Frankly it is irritating that the 'big' titles every new nintendo platform are always the same.

Also zelda does have a somewhat autistic approach to gaming, while this suits my somewhat autistic nature, I can't help wondering how may people other than me bother with the hundreds of essentailly pointless collectables. Having been round all of hyrule in Ocarina and slain every damned scultulla I must confess that I was left feeling entirely deflated and sickened. As for the 'prize' of essentially unlimited money, who cares? there was nothing to spend it on...

Link to the past for being huge and great and having a great arsenal of weapons, without being too easy
Twilight Princess for pure visual awe and playability. although it's only slightly different to WW riding Epona is a hell of a lot more fun than sailing.

I started with A link to the past, although the first one I ever beat was Ocarina of Time.

I liked both of them, but OOT was one of my favorite games of all time. I hated Ages and Seasons, and I despised windwaker for the long water sequences in addition to the stupid cartoon look.

Twilight Princess was alright, but it was no OOT, then again, what is? I also enjoyed Majora's Mask, although that was the first one where Miyamoto didn't do the game himself, so many people didn't like it.
