2. Ah! My Goddess. You know what I hate? Mary Sues. So why don't I hate Belldandy, who is pretty much the definition of a Purity Sue? I can't really say for certain. She has so many Sueish qualitites that I should despise her, but for whatever reason, it works. It might be a testimony to that this manga, while a bit clichéd, is also quite enjoyable to read. It's a complicated case; It contains elements I don't like, so I shouldn't enjoy it as much as I do, but like in the Belldandy case, it somehow works.
I am not 100% sure what you mean by "Mary Sues," but given the context I am assuming you mean a submissive naively sweet woman. I just have to say the reason you dont hate Belldandy for being a "Mary Sue" is because she is not, at all.

Follow me on this one:

Belldandy is not naive, she merely wants to think the best of people, but when push comes to shove, she is scary sharp, and scares the crap out of those trying to take advantage of her. Belldandy is shown to be more aware of what is going on than both her sisters and the other goddesses who show up, but tries not to make a big deal of the situation so she can better handle it, or allow others to handle their own problems and merely help them with advice, or a push in the right direction.

Also, not even Hild messes with Belldandy.

Best anime:
Sword Art Online(no, I don't care how bad you think it is.)snip
Thank you. Not my favorite, but possibly only because my top 5 are so close together it's hard to rank them.

Top 5:
SAO^
Busou Renkin
FMA
Code Geas R2(the first season isn't bad either)
Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple (more the manga. The anime was pretty good, but it ended too soon)

I also wanna add Highschool of the Dead onto here. Another one which I love simply because of how absurd it is.
Thank you! If you look at it as a satire, it's funny as hell. No way anyone intended that to be taken seriously.

1. Trigun
2. Mushishi
3. Samurai Champloo
4. Death Note.
5. Bleach.

I don't read manga, I always feel like the presentation style of anime is perfect in audio-visual form. Plus, all of the above have fantastic soundtracks; something that cannot be presented through words or illustrations, obviously.

Favorite Anime in no particular order.
Trigun
Gurren Lagann
Haibane Renmei
FMA
Magi
Spice and Wolf

I've never actually finished any manga besides this one http://www.ikki-para.com/webcomic/Pandemonium-en/01.html And I have to say This has got to be the most underrated piece of art I have ever seen.

I'm a big fan of To Aru Majutsu No Index (A Certain Magical Index) even though it is a bit "weird" in the anime sense
I liked Bleach until it got too shit for me to even consider watching.
I liked Shinchiro Wanatabe's Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy
Gurren Langann is one of my favorites
I'm not TOO big into anime, mostly because it's hard for me to find something I'd want to start watching

I've tried several different animes. The only ones I've liked have been:
Code Geass (especially that perfect ending)
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (a lot of really great characters -I can't decide who my favourite is)
Death Note (but only the first season -the second one was kind of shitty IMO)

Haven't read any manga. I'm currently watching Knights of Sidonia and I guess it's okay, but the characters all seem really bland so far.

Hold onto your Butts because this list can get big;

The Top Dogs:
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (and 2nd Gig)
Samurai Champloo
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Kill la Kill
Soul Eater

And some good honourable mentions:
Akame Ga Kill!
Bakemonogatari (and its sequetial seasons)
Afro Samurai
Attack on Titan
Cowboy Bebop
Fairy Tail
Gurren Lagann
Highschool of the Dead
Nisekoi
Panty & Stocking with Gaterbelt
Psycho Pass
Space Dandy
Tokyo ESP
Tokyo Ghoul
Witch Craft Works
Witchblade
Bleach (Just for getting me into it)

Sword Art Online would've been on the list if they could just remove the main character from the whole thing. Was looking forward to SAO II till I found out the girl was just the dude gender bending, getting all my hopes up... man he just gives me the shits.

Yeah, this is pretty much it. A Mary Sue is not a "submissive naively sweet woman", a Mary Sue is a character who is, for all means and purposes, flawless. And that's what Belldandy pretty much is. She can do pretty much everything perfectly. And it always comes up a bit too conveniently; A character was needed that could ride a broom really fast, and Belldandy just so happened to be a champion broomracer because of course she is. Yes, we've seen her ride brooms before, but that she was super-skilled at it was never really hinted at.

Pretty much everyone who meet her immediately love her, even robots (Which Urd acknowledges concerning Banpei), and the ones who don't are characters who we shouldn't really be rooting for anyway. Finally, she has very few personality flaws aside from her extremely rare bursts of jealousy.

Like I said, I dislike Mary Sues, but I don't dislike Belldandy. Somehow, it all works for her, and I don't understand it.

Unless...Oh God...SHE HAS INFLUENCE ON US OUTSIDE OF HER MEDIUM! THE FOURTH WALL WILL NOT PROTECT YOU!

Here are some of my favorites

Dead Leaves. First saw it about 4/5 years ago and the it was the first anime I ever watched outside of pokemon, beyblade yugioh and more of that kind of stuff. And it blew my mind. Great crazy animation and humor to match.

Kill la Kill. A recent series that I started watching as soon as I heard it had the same director as Dead Leaves. I wasn't disapointed.

Black Lagoon. A Japanese office worker gets captured by a bunch of pirates and decides to stay with them. Fantastic action and great characters.

Soul Eater. Normally I don't watch shounens because of there length. but 51 episodes is just short enough for me not to get sick of it. There are also other reasons for it to be on here like the characters, humor, action and of course excalibur.

The disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. My opinion of the tv series is mixed. First there was the fact that they spend 8 episodes doing almost the exact same things (I wisely decided to skip through most of those). And while I liked most of the characters I thought Haruhi was a giant *****. But I realy like the movie. Because while Haruhi was growing into a more likable character near the end of the series she had really grown on me by the end of the movie. And like the series it never gets too dramatic (except for one thing near the end that comes out of nowhere).

Don't really read that much in the way of manga, but I've steadily been putting some anime way under my belt over the years.

Psycho-Pass - A really effective blend of detective fiction with dystopian science-fiction - it does both very well, and the synergy they create is something you should check out if you enjoy either genre.

Baccano! - With a narrative that follows a host of different characters with a very disjointed chronology, you probably won't find your feet until the second episode, but it's fitting for a show that thrives on chaos as a host of different characters and factions struggle to get what they want on an ill-fated train ride in Prohibition-era America.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo - With a very distinct art style and set in the year 5000, Gankutsuou takes the classic story of revenge and changes it to a mystery, showing events from the perspective of the young Alfonse, rather than the Count. Excellent all-round, and if you've never seen/read the Count of Monte Cristo before, you should DEFINITELY check this out.

Mushi-shi - A calm and beautiful show, Mushi-shi follows the journeys of Ginko as he helps people with mushi, spiritual micro/macro-organisms that form an important part of the ecosystem. Each episode is like a well-written folk story, it's well worth a watch.

Hellsing Ultimate - If you can enjoy stupidly over-the-top but really cool violence, give this a go. Vampires. Nazis. Nazi Vampires. Not the height of intellect, but I had a blast watching this.

Steins;Gate - A bunch of misfits playing make-believe at being mad scientists accidentally create a time machine. A really good show that starts off with a cool premise and interesting characters, and explores and develops them all to the fullest.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Attack on Titan, Code Geass: Fighting, Intrigue, High Stakes, entertaining characters, plot twists - all good shows, all somewhat similar.

Also, while not actually anime, Avatar the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra are some of the best things I've ever seen, hands down. If you're going to watch one thing on this list, it should be Avatar.

Zankyou no Terror - An interesting show I picked up as a recommendation from GRArkada (youtube personality) about 2 young men committing acts of terrorism in Japan. Very moody, beautifully animated, and gorgeous sound design (done by Yoko Kanno...ya, Ghost in the Shell Yoko Kanno). I haven't heard much of this show around the internet so I am guessing this is flying under alot of people's radar which is a shame because it is turning out to be an excellent anime.
I've kept my eye on Zankyou no Terror and Aldnoah.Zero as soon as I heard about them, both have excellent pedigrees - Aldnoah.Zero's being written by Gen Urobuchi, who also wrote Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Zankyou no Terror's got Yoko Kanno handling sound and music, but even more impressively, it's being directed by Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, and so far, he's doing a great job, the show has this beautiful bleakness about it. I'm not surprised it's not being talked about all that much - it's a brand new anime, only 5 episodes have aired, and it's got a good deal of slow-burning mystery about it. Once they get far enough in that the mystery starts to unfold, it'll generate some noise.
