So it's pretty clear that we all like music quite a lot around these parts, but do any of you still have a fondness for the composers of old? If so, for which?

I myself would have to go with Chopin (NOT BECAUSE OF ETERNAL SONATA DAMMIT!), Schumann, Albinoni and Scarlatti.

Dmitri Shostakovich, Franz Liszt, Bela Bartok, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Giacomo Puccini, Iannis Xenakis, Gustav Mahler, Claude Debussy, Johann Sebastian Bach.

To be honest, I'm not terribly familiar with the work of Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin. I know a few easily recognizable pieces and that's really it. Though, Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata will always be one of my favorite occurrences in musical history.

I like a lot of the more famous ones, as for (relatively) obscure:

Holst, Rachmaninov, Dvorak, Butterworth

Just like Alexander DeLarge I love me some Ludwig Van when I'm in the mood for that sort of thing.

Chopin, hands down. Then Beethoven would be my next favourite, although to be honest, I don't listen to that much classical music.

I got some Mozart (Clarinet Concerto and Clarinet Quintet) from a friend today and it's pretty good but apart from that I don't really have that much experience with classical music

Beethoven, Brahms and Hayden

I love the romantic period of music, it is so dramatic, powerful and emotional. Unless you actually mean the specific classical period they are my favourite classical composers

Gershwin. Maybe not classical pur sang, but he's created some masterpieces! Love the 3rd Prelude.

Rachmaninov. Just listen, you'll know.

Maybe both on opposite sides of the spectrum, but hey, good music is good music [/cliche]

It's difficult to choose one. 4 that comes to my mind are Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak and Tchaikovsky. Pretty standard I guess. I'm just not that familiar with many other composers.

Bach, definitely Bach. Why? Because while I like classical music in general, you can't beat DADADAAAAH
dadadadaaaaaah
DAAAADAAADAAAAH
daadaadaadaa
Toccata and fugue in B-minor (I think it's called).

I've always been a fan of Mozart and Beethoven. And Chopin because his name isn't said how its spelt.

Wagner... he was a damned nazi
How on earth could he have been a Nazi!? He died in 1883!

I'm quite fond of Holst, Pachelbel, Bach, Rachmaninov and especially Debussy, but my favourite would have to be Gershwin. Rhapsody in Blue (and an American in Paris to an extent) hold me spellbound whenever they play

Bach would have to be my pick. Damn how I love Air. I also rather enjoy a bit of Vivaldi.
And for some of the new composers I think that Karl William Jenkins and Vangelis are incredible composers.

I'm not very well listened when it comes to classical music, but I do like a bit of Mozart and Strauss every so often.
