Wagner... he was a damned nazi
How on earth could he have been a Nazi!? He died in 1883!
Sometime antisemite would be more accurate, methinks.

Also, I'm rather partial to Mussorgsky.

Wagners music was (ab)used by the nazis, that's totally correct. He himself would be better described as an antisemite, but who wasn't in that time?

I'm not a huge fan of Chopin, although I'm a pianist. At the moment my favourites are Saint Saens, Vaughn Williams and Verdi. Though it changes on a regular basis. I like the romantics too, though few of them were prolific enough to call a favourite.

Vivaldi, Pachelbel, Mahler, Shostakovich, Mozart, Grieg and Sibelius. The usual crew deserves recognition, but the ones I've listed are those that stand out to me

I like a lot of classical music, but my tastes are not particularly sophisticated. Beethoven's Ninth is, to paraphrase Neon Genesis Evangelion (sigh, nerd alert), one of mankind's greatest creations. I like Tchaikovsky, Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, all those big names. I'd also mention Bizet and Prokofiev, although Prokoviev is very recent, relatively speaking.

And just to irritate the OP (kidding :p ) I'm going to say Chopin, specifically BECAUSE of Eternal Sonata. I have to admit that I didn't know much of his work before playing that game, and what I did know of it didn't really appeal to me. But Eternal Sonata gave me a new appreciation of some of his stuff. And I LOVE the piano (check out the Final Fantasy Piano Collections, truly magnificent IMO).

Vivaldi...but it depends on the mood. Maybe Bartok if I feel like making the effort, maybe Elgar if I can't be bothered at all.

The original question spelt classical with a capital C, implying they want classical composers from that period only...that's tough because I dislike the Classical period and much prefer Baroque. The thing with classical music is that people are really big on compilations. They take the best from individual composers, meaning that for many (like Sibelius), I have only heard a couple of their works, so I couldn't call them favourites.

Mozart, always Mozart. His music is just alive... That, and his requiem is just beautiful. I like me some Bach as well.

Beethoven, but not by much. Nothing tops the Moonlight Sonata in my opinion though. Somber classics just rub me the right way.

Bach or Grieg. Fun Fact: Did you know that the famous writer Ibsen hated the music Grieg composed to his play 'Peer Gynt'?
