What is your favourite cover song of all time. Cover means it's a song performed by a different band or group that is different then the original, incase your wondering. Mine would have to be this which I discovered recently (and yes it is a SOAD cover).

Can't point out any favorites, though Machine Head's cover of Iron Maiden's 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' is deadly.

Imagine by A Perfect Circle

They managed to COMPLETELY change the feel of Lennon's song without altering the lyrics in any way; genius if I have ever seen it

Seriously, listen to the original than listen to this... chilling.

The entire Punk Goes Pop 2 Album. Its awesome

If I have to choose an individual, Id say the Vitamin String Quartet cover of "A little less sixteen candles, a little more touch me"

The problem with this question is that I don't know which of my favourite songs are covers. So I always play it safe and say that I really liked AFI's Head Like a Hole and leave it at that.

What can I say, I'm a sucker for punk rock versions of 80s songs?

Well those are just some. But I can't think of any other covers at the moment.

Johnny Cash - Hurt
Hurt permeates every word of that song.
I won't deny that Johny Cash's interpretation of 'Hurt' is tasteful, however for me, it pales in comparison to Trent Reznor's original; the emotive effect of the original (which is considerable on its own) is further amplified when you listen to 'The Downward Spiral' as a cohesive work.

Beaten to the punch, alas! There were these japanese covers of punk titles as well that were quite interesting, heard them on a TF2 server.

Prepare to be bombarded with videos in these spoilers, because its hard for me to pick a favorite.

But if I had to choose, my absolute favorite cover ever is...

Or anything the Northern Kings do.

Gary Jules - Mad World.
He took an admittedly retarded song and made it an incredibly solumn and sad melody. Absolutely Beautiful.

The original, for some perspective.

Bob Dylan's cover of House of the Rising Sun (the original was by The Animals, right?)

Jimi Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower

I found the johnny cash version first so I may have to contribute it to that. I'll take a listen to the other see how it may effect my opinion.
