Rockstar North have yet to ever disappoint me, same can be said about Naughty Dog. And I'm not just including this generation of consoles (Because let's be honest. PC doesn't really have generations, just constant advancements in technology (Gaming aside)). I would say the same about Bethesda, and while Skyrim and Fallout 3 have rocked my world, I was never able to get into Oblivion for a couple of reasons. The first will always be weapon degredation. It was understandable in Fallout, but in Oblivion is was bullshit. The second was simply time. I started playing Bethesda games (Fantasy games in general aside from Fable) only a couple of years ago, and Oblivion hasn't really aged well.

Obsidian, because I like games that have character. I am quite happy with DICE (even if BF3 is a little flawed) and Firaxis is really very solid. I have a hazy definition of "generations". I have been playing on the same basic system for about 21 years so the notion of "generation" gets a little sketchy.

Props to Platinum games for making better action games then AAA western developers. Have fun with your scripted Call of Duty set pieces, i'll be over at Platinum's chucking Metal Gear Rays into the sun via cyborg ninja.

Obsidian: All the need to do is fix their bugs and there you go, you have something great to compliment your writing abilities.
From Software: Souls series. Perfection.
Atlus: Not a single product of theirs lacked quality, also Persona 4 is too damn OP of a game, needs nerf. Oh wait they made Golden, I said nerf not buff Atlus! Why do you love your fans so much!

I guess either Santa Monica for the amazing God of War games(my favorite game series)or Naughty Dog for the Uncharted series, though Uncharted 3 was a bit meh to me. Haven't played The Last of Us yet, but it seems people generally like the game.

From Software for Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and (hopefully) Dark Souls 2.
Irrational Games for Bioshock and, to a lesser extent, Bioshock Infinite.
Naughty Dog for the Uncharted franchise and Last of Us.

Seeing as this generation has only just started, ask me again when it has ended & I'll tell you.
you are wrong. this generation is ending. it will end with the release of new consoles. and the next one will start at that time. currently it has not started yet.
...and the Wii U is what, exactly?

OT: Tough call. I suppose if I had to narrow it down my top three would be Bioware, Valve, and Gearbox. Yeah, I said Gearbox. They're a good company who make solid stuff. It's not their fault they have to work with idiots sometimes.

Bioware - For the amazing Mass Effect trilogy.

Valve - For obvious reasons. Namely the continued support of Team Fortress 2.

Gearbox - I freaking love Borderlands/2.

Man so many choices.

Bethesda - Skyrim
Obsidian - New Vegas
Firaxis - Civ V, Xcom
Sucker Punch - Infamous
Naughty Dog - Uncharted, Last of Us
Telltale - The Walking Dead

Honourable mention to Rockstar for Red Dead Redemption, Valve for Portal and Platinum for Vanquish (never played any of their other games beyond a Bayonetta demo). Side note - Platinum seems to get a hell of a lot of love on these forums.

As for Dev's, I'm going to go with Platinum and From Software.

Well fuck that. They shouldn't have to be forced to work with anyone. Five bucks says the main antagonist makes a point to claim Faith's inferiority based on gender.

I can't find the actual TED she gave in motherfucking Sweden (because EA flew her to Sweden to work with DICE), but so far she's promised to change the control scheme to be 'easier', because she thought the game was too difficult for girls. Instead of Mirror's Edge immersive combo of parkour beauty, she wants you to hit one button and be over your obstacle of choice. Because differing control schemes scare off women.

EA probably is hanging onto her only to look progressive and I doubt DICE has a choice to deny any of her claims. So, they're having a rampant feminism gamer -- who is hated by gamers and probably feminists as well -- to work as a consultant to a game even though she's never been involved in a game's development before.

So yeah. Not getting Mirror's Edge 2.

Elaborate. NAO.

OT: CD Projekt, because the Witcher is fun and they run gog.com.

Cavia, for making games that break the mold and are so thoroughly fucked up, Drakengard 3 hasn't even come out and it is looking more fucked up than most things that come out nowadays
Cavia isn't making Drakengard 3 Access Games is. They were the ones that made Deadly Premonition
But there are some of the Cavia guys involved, mainly Yoko Taro, he's basically the guy who made Drakengard and Nier so fucked up

Well, two posts above.

Hmmm, no one in particular.

I sorta liked Sucker Punch for being, as Yahtzee stated, the none squeaky wheel this generation. Bioware also, despite blundering pretty heavily, still gave me a fair amount of entertainment.

And I'll give a shout out to Sony Santa Monica for being involved in some of the best looking games this gen.

Valve because The International 3 is going to be amazing. The amount of Dota 2 streams I have been watching has been ridiculous. If anyone likes to watch I advise this match:

Two steals one match + other hilarious and amazing plays. Was just entertaining from the start to end.

To the topic: well, my two favourite series this gen have been TES and Borderlands. I can't really give it to Gearbox though because they are, to put it nicely, quite inconsistent. Even within the Borderlands games, the DLCs are quite inconsistent for instance: Moxxi's bad, Knoxx fantastic, Hammerlock's dismal, Tina's awesome. So yeah, Bethesda.

To this Mirror's Edge thing: loooooooooooooool. I don't know whether that's full on brain-dead or some kind of twisted genius marketing. I fully expect the game to sell well and simultaneously be meta-bombed into oblivion. There's that certain sort of gamer that rushes out to buy such things in the full knowledge they'll hate them. They'll probably be finalising the exact wording of their scathing review in their heads at the same moment they're handing their money over. EA seem to love that market.

Source please? I only ask because this is the first I've heard of it and a quick google search turned up absolutely nothing, so unlike other folks around here I'd rather not fly off the handle about how awful that is until I have confirmation from someone other than some guy on the internet. No offense intended of course.

EDIT: Never mind, saw your later post. Should have scrolled a bit farther I suppose. Still though, all we've got is a Destructoid blog post by someone from back in October. About eight months before the game was even officially announced. I'm not going to hold my breath on that being very true. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but I'll wait for something a bit more official before losing my shit over it. Plus I don't really have high hopes for Mirror's Edge 2 anyway. From what EA have said about it, they don't seem to have a solid handle on why the first one was good anyway, let alone how to improve it.

CD Pojekt Red for me, not only did they make The Witcher 2 (my favourite game, sorry KotOR II) but also their general attitude towards customers and showing how bad the AAA sector is getting but making a game bigger, better for a fraction of the cost.

Runner up is Paradox (developer part, NOT publishing part) they know their niche and they stick to it providing some of the best strategy games ever

You know, I never was outright outraged by Anita. I thought she was a bit patronizing, but whatever.

But if she SERIOUSLY said that the control scheme is "too complicated for girls", and will thus "empower them" by making it all easier...
