off the top of my head
1408- a good old psychological horror film. There aren't enough of these anymore. I also really like John Cusack.
Let the Right One In- Good characters, atmosphere and mix of genres. I'd say watch the original, though both versions are good
John Carpenter's The Thing- 'nuff said
The original Halloween- same as above
28 Days Later- it's not that "scary", but the atmosphere definitely works. It also just happens to be a very good movie. Has more psychological elements than a standard horror film
Tetsuo the Iron man- not so much scary, but this movie is a complete mindfuck.
Ichi the killer- same as above, though it's classified as horror.
Several other Japanese horror films. Just look for the ones with English remakes.
I know Lars Von Trier doesn't really direct conventional horror, but his films can definitely bring about a sense of anxiety
A lot of the old Hitchcock stuff is also good.

I wouldn't say it's my favourite movie, but it creeps the absolute fucking bejeesus outta me, more than any other horror film I've ever seen.

The Audition was pretty damn scary, and unnerving too.

Is that the Japanese films with the bloke "auditioning" for a new wife?

If it is the only scene that ever sticks in my mind about that films is the one with the wire and the feet. And the smile she has while... well I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Yup, it sure is.

That scene and when you first see the burlap sack, and pretty anything to deal with what's in it. God that movie was creepy.

The fact that it starts out as a kind of sappy tragicomedy didn't really help prepare you for what was really coming either.

Now the movie's reputation has already preceded it, but back when it was first released I had no clue it was going to get this fucking grisly.

My favorite horror movie of all time was The Hills Have Eyes. I saw it when I was six and ever since that movie cannibal hill billy's have jumped to the top of my 'never want to meet you' list ha ha. That movie was seriously scary and to hear my dad say that they are out there in the dessert on the way back from my grandparents was why that will be one of my all time favorite scary movies of all time. Favorite line- "You got rocks in your head ass hole" LoL.

You have to admit, that scene where the Predators...or that scene with the chestburster...okay what the fuck?! An Alien film that censors the chestburster scene for a PG-13 rating is just not right.

If I had to admit that something actually in the movie was horrifying... it'd be the acting quality.

Not even Lance Henriksen could save it...

I knew it was going to get weird when you see her get the callback, but not like that.

28 Days Later creeped me out a bit (Although I'll never call it a zombie flick, but fuck getting into that long dead argument). But...

[REC]2. I did not sleep without all the lights in the house turned on for about two weeks. That movie scared the living fuck out of me.

Isn't [REC]2 the new film with the wedding where the zombies attack? I saw the trailer, and the bride cutting a zombie's face down the middle with a chainsaw seemed awesome.

I don't know why but the movie that got to me more than most was Event Horizon. There's just something about the seclusion of space that elevates everything, and I don't really want to get into Alien or 2001 because those are more Science Fiction affairs.

However, I truly love the Horror genre, and haven't missed many titles. So it really has to fall to my youth if I'm looking at what gave me a real scare. If I was to say what was my all time favorite, it would have to be A Nightmare on Elm Street. There is just so much that was right with that first movie, Writers and Directors alike have been drawing from it for over 20 years.
