Favourite metal album?

By metal you're covering punk as well? Hate to get into a semantical argument but that's a pretty broad fucking leap! I mean, might as well just be referring to all rock and roll. It's like making a 'favorite breed of dog' thread and then saying cats are acceptable. Did I misunderstand something?

EDIT: You know what, my fault. I didn't follow it. I read "hardcore, punk". "hardcore punk" is definitely something I could see fitting in with a metal thread, it was pretty much the lovechild of the two genres.

You might as well had made a 'favorite album' thread, I bloody love metal. Oh, so many...
In Flames:
Soundtrack To Your Escape
The Jester Race
Colony
Come Clarity

Children of Bodom:
Follow The Reaper
Blooddrunk
Hatebreeder.

Dark Tranquillity:
The Gallery

John 5:
The Devil Knows My Name

Trivium:
Shogun

Yes, they are many, but I love them all so much that I can't decide which one is the best. So this'll just be my top 10 albums list. In no particular order.

Basically, the whole song is about sex and raping little kids :p
Thought it would be something more meaningful, as What's Up People?! is about criminals and how fucked up they are
[sub]Murderers and such, that is[/sub]
Really? I thought it was just a theme to Death Note. Do you know what Zetsubou Billy's about?

Pretty much anything by Avril Lavigne.
That post mixed with that avatar just made me laugh like an idiot. You are awesome.
I was being serious. And that's just the way my face looks. Why can't people take me seriously?
Every genius has said this at some point or another.

My favorite is a toss up twixt Leviathan and Blackwater Park.

EDIT: And Ire Works. I can't believe I forgot about Ire Works...

Metallica-Master of Puppets (It's either this or Ride the Lightening, depending on which you hear first)
Anthrax-Vol 8
Pantera-The Great Southern Trendkill (their best album, period)
Slipknot-Vol 3
High On Fire-Blessed Black Wings
Pelican-The Fire In Our Throats Beckon The Thaw
Deftones-White Pony

That's probably where I'd start. People have listed some other excellent albums (Toxicicity, Jane Doe, Astro Creep, Peace Sells) and bands (Sabbath, Sabbath, Sabbath). I'd probably add Soundgarden, Neurosis, the Melvins, Isis and Zeppelin.

For pure hate, I doubt there's anything as nasty as Tool's Anema, except for Slayer's Disciple.

But for anyone into metal, if you have the time I say go back and listen to what's been done. There's some amazing stuff back there and you don't have to wade through the shit.
/not hatin' on the new stuff
//just don't want to see the history forgotten

And since you said in your initial post that it didn't have to be strictly metal:
The Meanest of Times-Dropkick Murphys
Blackout-Dropkick Murphys
The Warrior's Code-Dropkick Murphys

Death's 'The Sound Of Perseverance' will always be my top metal album, with second and third going to Opeth's 'Blackwater Park' and Kamelot's 'Epica'.
