As the title suggests, what is your favourite mod from any game? What does it do? Why do you enjoy it so much? I actually have 3 favourite mods:

1) From L4D, the hunter games mod! All 8 players are forced into the infected team as hunters, and they play games such as Tag!, pounce races, 25 damage pounce races, and variations thereof. It's like a whole different game! And it's server hosted.

2) From TF2, the randomizer mod, which randomizes which class you play as upon spawn, and the weapons! All default weapons are available, and the flare gun in disguise as an engie pistol. Great fun!

3) From Oblivion, the Lost Spires mod. It introduces a new guild, the Archaeologist's Guild, and begins a new quest line as you rise to the top! Adds new characters, dungeon type, new enemies (a couple only re-skinned), many new items with beneficial(?) effects (are you lucky enough to eat the insanity pepper?), and is on par with the official guilds. The only problem... no voice acting...though you get used to it.

So, what's your favourite mods?

I have quite a few I really like/d.

Alien Swarm from Unreal Tournament 2k4: It was an eight-player co-op "comp stomp", with a top-down camera where you and your team had to do several missions and progress through a campaign to crush the onslaught of StarCraft/Aliens-inspired aliens. They can infect you, and if you're not healed you'll explode and spawn five or six more parasites, every character had his or her specialty (making balanced teams a must, literally - there were missions where if you don't have a Tech specialist you simply can't progress, etc), you can toss flares to increase accuracy at your enemies... it really was one of the best-developed and best-thought-out mods I've ever played. This dominated my LAN parties for a long, long time.

JAMSNDS.WAD from Doom: I know what you're thinking. A .WAD file? But man... this file was so f'ing sweet. If, like me, you have a soft spot for NBA Jam, this would add hilarious little sound effects for when you blew away your enemies. I.E. "Blam" "BOOM SHAKALAKA!". It sounds immature, but then again I was only about eleven at the time.

Some Diablo mod I can't remember: It added a couple of new classes, some new gear, some pretty well-made dungeons, and new questlines. It was a really great little mod that added some life to a game I couldn't get enough of as it was... and the Bard class could f'ing dual-wield. UNHEARD OF!

A mod my friend made for Jedi Knight: I have a friend, Corey, who is fucking hilarious. His jokes, sound effects, etc make me laugh everytime we're together, and he did something that a couple of other friends and I decided to put in Jedi Knight.

We used to have LAN parties every weekend in the basement of an old church, and Jedi Knight was a popular game to play (at least until they got mad at me for my Force Choke/lightsaber-to-the-dome shenanigans). Once, we were recording sound (just to note the declining coherency of our back-and-forth banter as the night wore on) and you can hear something hilarious: you know that one fast-paced track from Star Wars that starts off with a descending series of sharp notes? That played on the soundtrack of the game, and my friend Corey just yelled out "DA NANANANANANANA!" in the perfect pitch, tone and sound. We laughed and laughed, I suggested we immortalize it, then my tech-savvy friend made a mod that changed the soundtrack - every time that song would start playing, the sharp-note intro was replaced by Corey yelling his own little version.

Now that I've spent five minutes typing it out, it seems less funny, but trust me... springing that one on Corey at the next LAN party was the bomb.

I quite liked the level-up mod on Counterstike. I got such a feeling of accomplishment when I killed.

Both of my favourite mods were from quake II

Action Quake was awesome, unforgiving damage, bleeding, hand cannons, throwing knives and akimbo pistols. It was genius. Nothing beat getting into a snipers nest with knives or hand cannon.

Gloom was fantastic. Two seperate teams, humans with all of their generic space marines and the other team was aliens that, depending on class could spit acid, shoot spikes, turn invisible etc. Plus they all had night vision where most humans had torches. Had to go in amd destroy the other teams base. Stunning game.

Gmod. It has to be said.

Zombie master for CSS.
I really can't think of any others right now :S. Even though I've worked on mods previously I just can't think of any I've really liked.

Garry's Mod is one I love.
Day Hard is a funny HL2 mod.
Minerva Stasis is another great HL2 that actually has tactical combine placement.

Gun Game? Yeah, that's a great mod.

The Dice Roll mod for TF2 is also good.

But the best mod I've ever played would be SourceForts. It's just awesome.

Oh, and I can't believe I forgot it and nobody else mentioned it.

Desert Combat for Battlefield: 1942. This mod rocked my world... and the developers are now the ones working on new Battlefield games. Definitely the best mod I've ever played.

ChaosUT, particularly the UT2004 version, as it has far better weapons than the UT99 one. (They even took the crappy Ripper from UT99 and improved that, creating the glorious C.U.T.T.E.R.)

Robostorm for UT2004 is also pretty cool - choose one of five vehicles (all except the Leviathan), and have the ability to transform into a humanoid, wielding normal UT2004 weaponry. It's basically like having a vehicle with you at all times that you can jump into. Onslaught with this mod is beautiful, far more dynamic than it normally is.

The Real Life mod for Quake 4 - basically makes all the weapons more powerful, so stuff actually dies when you shoot it. Yay. Now all I need is to find a HL2 mod that makes the weapons accurate and I'll be happy.

The Battlefront II Total Conversion Pack. Adds so much new content that it doubles the size of the game on disk, from 4GB to 8GB. Impressive or what?

I'm a bit biased, since I'm a mod leader myself for C&C Generals Zero Hour, but I'll leave my own mod out of the loop (especially since it isn't even in alpha yet :p).

C&CG Zero Hour: Blitzkrieg II, epic WWII mod.
Space Empires IV&V: A hell of a lot of mods. I'm only really including it to advertise the games :p
Red Orchestra: Darkest Hour, Western Allies vs. Germans from D-Day onward. I still prefer regular RO, but on occasion I play this, simply because of the awesome additions. Panzerschrecks, Bazookas, Jagdpanthers, King Tigers.....

So they fixed it? I remember playing this years ago and it had so much potential, but it was basically broken.

Oblivion Midas Magic Spells. Adds a ton of new spells to the game, new creatures, new items, weapons, armor. It is amazing.
Half-Life 2 Minerva:Metastasis. It is an amazingly well done single player mod. It has awesome level design, and I like his combine base better than Valve's.

There's an entirely new release out, and although tbh I haven't played it too extensively yet, I believe it's fine.
