My favourite guitar solo is

closely followed by Frank Zappa (I just love the bass breakdown), so for the novelty.

It doesn't have to be a guitar solo, so go wild.

Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin. THAT'S the reason not to let the drummer have a solo. Unless you have to do your tax returns.

Without a doubt, this:

That solo gives me chills everytime I hear it, there's just so much emotion and feeling put into each and every one of those notes.

Not really sure what everyone else here conciders a "aolo." When I hear the term, the only thing that comes to mind is "opera".

This amazing clarinet solo.
A Dentonite? Can it be?

The bass solo at the beginning of The Mars Volta's "Day of the Baphomets." Sounds like they're marching to war. A Latin war. (I believe this is actually Flea).

This feels kind of out of place since I'm so over South Park and the rest of the song is supposed to be serious, but the cover of Styx' "Come Sail Away" from the Chef Album. The guitar solo is at 4:10, when they make it funky.

This isn't really my favorite drum solo, just one of the more memorable for me because it's the first thing I ever learned to play. Stone Temple Pilots' "Army Ants," also their most underrated song. The solo's just after the 2:12 mark.

(sorry they only had really muddy live videos of this on youtube)

I listen to alot of songs with solos which I REALLY like. I spose one of my favourites is Zakk Wylde's solo off No More Tears (live versions are even better). Buckethead I guess you could technically call one colossal solo. The solo off Muffin Man by Frank Zappa. The Awakening by Les Claypool is pretty awesome. The solo off Hey Joe by Hendrix kicks ass. Eddie Van Halen on Humans Being (though the riff owns too). The solo in If You Want Peace Prepare For War by Children of Bodom is pretty cool. Master of Puppets solo is rather nice from Metallica. The solo off Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top is good as well. The solo from The Way of the Fist by FFDP. Hells Bells by ACDC. Most of these bands have several songs with good solos but I didn't feel like doubling up. And also a bunch I'm definately forgetting right now.

Oh yeah and Ballad Of William Kidd by Running Wild (You must listen to it. Great song, has awesome riffs and singing as well)

It amazing me that you can mention this song without talking in GREAT depth about the drum solo in it. So short but the sweetest thing ever*.

While on the topic of Rush YYZ has solos from all the 3 instruments, all of which hare amazing, particularly the final drum solo.

As for guitar solos, Cliffs of Dover and Nottingham Lace come to mind.

*May be a slight exaggeration

I thought the drum solo was a little too much of an obvious choice so I thought about something slightly less talked about that is just as epic :)

And, Cliffs of Dover is also a good choice.

Who cares if it's obvious if it's that good?

Also one I forgot the whole bassline in Schism by Tool simple yet amazing.
