Favourite or recommended card games

When I was younger about 9 I used to play yu-gi-oh and the Pokemon card game, I thought these were alright and they were fun to collect, but now that I'm a little older I think it might be fun to get into something more sophisticated.

I was wondering what your favourite card games are, what to avoid, and just generally what's fun!

P.s. This is my first thread so I hope I didnt put this in the wrong section or anything like that :/ oh and that some of you like card games

Also Illuminati is pretty cool. I mean, a legal move in that game could be:

It's what the Pokemon crowd graduate to.

Texas Hold 'Em is nice too.

Yomi seems pretty popular (sirlin.net). It has some of the same basic concepts you would have learned while playing Pokemon (and shares a lot with fighting games, if you happen to play those), but it totally ditches the collectible grindathon that comes with games like Magic.

Yea L5R is a great card game, much more complicated than Magic so it takes some time to learn.

Its a mix of Asian cultures in a high fantasy setting

Magic the Gathering. I prefer the first edition to all the new rules. Roll back time, 1st edition and Legends, play that!

Also, Munchkin, which is made the same company who made Illuminati, is pretty awesome to.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MtG but it causes so many arguments, it makes me worry sometimes. That and the old cards are all but incompatible with the severely broken cards that are coming out now (hell, even the Unglued cards seem weak compared to some of these new things) making my large collection mere piles of paper.

I was poking around Borders the other day and my buddy and I stumbled upon a card game based on the Warhammer 40,000 spin-off, "Space Hulk." The card game is called "Death Angel" and what's cool about it is that it is cooperative. You can play solitaire or up to 6 players and you play together against the deck. It's pretty simple once you figure it out and there's no add-ons to buy. Everything you need is right there in the box and it's only about $20.00 US. Definitely worth every penny!
