Simply put, what is your favourite retro console?

It can be any system before the last console generation and you choose it for any reason, such as nostalgia, the amount of good games or even how revolutionary it was.

For me, it would be the Nintendo 64 for bringing so many old Nintendo favourites into 3D

Old school, Special Edition, Yellow Pokemon Gameboy Color. The one with pokemon all around the screen. That thing was badass, and yes I still have it, and yes it still works.

N64 was best for gaming with friends (WCW vs NWO, Goldeneye, Smash Bros.). Playstation for giving me as much enjoyment over time.

The Snes I'd have to say.

It has got freaking U.N Squadron! Yeah, a big bunch of other very nice games as well but still,
FREAKING U.N Squadron!

Although the Nintendo64 was my first console and have fond memories of it and my second (and the one I have the most games for) the gamecube I will have to go with the Snes because I love the Snes games they just kick ass!

N64, retro? Ye gods, I feel old now.
I'd say the Sega Megadrive/Genesis. Y'know, back when Sonic was a decent franchise.

My SNES as it has awesome games like LOZ:LttP, Killer Instinct, Super International Cricket and Mario Kart on it and my console still works, which is always a bonus...

Although, I grew up in the 80's (Ohemmgee I'm going to be 30 in two months!) and played many a NES game. My fondest memories are of the Super Nintendo games that I played in my early teens.

Hmm... Amiga probably. Even though I never had my own, my cousin had lots of amiga games.
Cannon Fodder, Lost Vikings, Chuck Rock, Benefactor... Or my dad's old NES.

Though, since I never had my own amiga I have many more fond memories of games on the SNES and the PSX.
Like Tactics Ogre. Gods, I've beaten that game probably over half a dozen times. (Beating it ONCE takes around 20-30 hours, IIRC. And that's without doing things like Hell's Gate, the Elemental Magic questline, finding the Gunner or chasing Deneb's Shop around the wold.)
Then I got it on PSX so I could actually UNDERSTAND it. The SNES version doesn't have an english translation.
I think I beat it half a dozen times more then, just because the plot finally made sense and wasn't just "so.. That old man, who usually talks to the eyepatch-guy, stabbed the man with the beard, in the city with a name with squiggly lines (i.e. kanji) that look sort of like..." Although me and my friend had really fun trying to come up with our own explanations for what happened.

I think it's the game I've spent the most time on, ever. The only game that might compete with it is WoW.

Haha I was trying to think between the Genesis/N64 (probably aged the best)/Saturn (couple of absolute gems, a fair bit of dross) when I realised that'd make the PSOne "retro", which is clearly absurd. So yes, N64 is out as a retro console, which only leaves the Genesis or Master System as consoles I own, and as good as the MS was the Genesis is the clear winner there.
