Favourite Sci Fi movie

For days, weeks even.

Halfway because of the score honestly, the theme stands as one of my favorite pieces of music EVER, and the rest is just so darn atmospheric.

Anybody who hasn't seen it and wants to give it a shot, watch it alone, at night, in the dark. I know that's basically the ideal way to watch most movies but I swear to you, you won't regret it.

Following close behind for completely different reasons is Pacific Rim. Something about giants fighting other giants that always gets me, always always always.

Exactly right.
It's funny, when the trailer came out, the music reminded me of the movie and I ended up buying that instead so I wouldn't say the advertisement failed, I mean, I bought something.

I guess this ominous song is somewhat of a warning sign...
Or not, it's just been attached to one bad thing, one okay thing, and one really really good thing.

Video isn't working for me, but I managed to find it elsewhere. That's an...interesting, combination. Most of the trailers tend to use quite optimistic music, and it certainly doesn't really fit the scene in question.

Personally, I can't really reccomend the movie, but a lot of that is down to personal preference. Streep is fine in it, but for me, the movie spent far too much time on Thatcher's personal life, and not enough time on her political one. The film is set up as a flashback that shows Thatcher in retirement and 'not all there' - personally I thought it could have done without it, work in chronological order, and factor in both sides of her life as it went on.

My favorites have always been the slower, atmospheric kind of sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, Alien, The Thing and Moon, with Blade Runner being my number 1. There's a couple I still have to see though, like Stalker, Solaris and Metropolis (anyone here seen it?).

There was this weird European time-travel film I saw once, was quite mesmerising even if low budget. Have no idea what it was called though.

A little disappointed no one mentioned Akira. I like to watch it every couple of years, most recently today. It's such a crazy, stylish experience.

Right, good one. I've completely ignored animated movies, but Akira would definitely be up there, together with Paprika, Ghost in the Shell and Wall-E.

There's a couple I still have to see though, like Stalker, Solaris and Metropolis (anyone here seen it?).

Metropolis is totally good! Great production design especially. It occupies a weird spot in popular film history, in that it seems to be the most famous/seen silent film, and it's my opinion that it's far from the best. It meanders a bit, and the smaller scenes don't have as much pull to them as the spectacle-driven stuff. Still definitely worth seeing though.
